Us selling bamford to Leeds

Terrible comparisons to the Bamford situation though aren't they? Might as well throw Juninho into the mix while you're at it. Agree it's old ground that has been gone over many times in the past. But if people want to vent why not? Just like the politics threads folk don't have to read them.

I'm still annoyed by it, I can't think of a more stupid player sale we've done. The vast vast majority of Boro fans rated him, the vastly experienced manager, who I think has in the past commented on fans lack of understanding of the game, did not. In a team struggling for goals we had two standout attacking performers who got us into the play offs. We had to sell Traore, no choice in that. Selling the other was bonkers. The fact Pulis has repeatedly tried to excuse the sale by blaming it on Bamford "wanting to leave" and "we needed the money" tells you he knows it was a mistake. He probably suspected so at the time but was obsessed with his "system" which seems to absolutely require a big donkey up front rather than a footballer. He also clearly didn't like Bamford much personally either. Better for him to move the "problem" on. Utterly infuriating given our record in the transfer market in recent seasons.

As we know finding a good striker is very hard. But let one go without being forced to, when it was blindingly obvious to anyone with eyes the quality he had is inexcusable.

Maybe when we find one of comparable quality we'll stop talking about it. Could be a long time though.
A fantastic post Festa.

We have sold quality players but when you receive record transfer fees or a big fee it cushions the blow. The fee for Bamford was not very high into todays market - roughly the same as we paid for Fletcher and less than we paid for Braithwaite. I was expecting £15m for a player who was clearly a top end Championship striker and a good age.

Are we going to get one of these posts every time he plays or scores?

2050 - Bamford, Leeds manager, wins a couple of games;

"Keep my tea hot love, i've just got to fire off another post moaning about why Pulis sold Bamford in 2017"

I know it’s been a while but I don’t think I’ll ever understand the reasoning for this. Watching him here and talking about poss eng caps etc.

For me one of if not the most stupid decision we’ve made in a long time.

I thought it was madness then and it looks even worse now. It’s not like got a king ransom for him either.

Nope I’ll never understand it.
It won't stop Leeds getting relegated.
As for Bamford footballers come and go. For every side of the seesaw there is a Bamford and Gibson.

Leeds won't come close to relegation due to the fact there are about 5/6 teams far worse than them.

The bottom 4 are already slowly getting left behind.

Leeds will always create chances, therefore, the goals will come and that'll keep them up.

Leeds have already taken points off City & Arsenal...can't see them going down this season.

We drew 0-0 with Arsenal and 1-1 with Man City and then went on to be relegated comfortably

I think Leeds will be fine, but those two results aren't why I think that.

You can not be serious here. You have failed to put into context the fact that although Bamford was retained by a PL club, his contract value and salary will likely have been relatively low for a PL player. He was passed from pillar to post and the only home he was offered was at a PL club planning for likely relegation. If you think he was offered mega bucks based on his achievements I really do not buy that. Britt however, was prised from Forest for a fortune as a first choice player expected to shoot us to the PL at the first attempt. Personally, I would be more than gobsmacked if Paddy had even close to the level of contract Britt had salary wise.
Consider yourself more than gobsmacked then 👍

This website has them down as £38k p/W and £34k p/W respectively.

Leeds won’t go down

as I said last season they have a truly world class coach we might not like it but it doesn’t make it any less true.

Bielsa is the managers manager -

Pep Guardiola
“My admiration for Marcelo Bielsa is huge because he makes the players much, much better. Still I didn’t meet one guy, a former player from Marcelo Bielsa who speaks no good of him. They are grateful about his influence on their careers in football. He helped me a lot with his advice. Whenever I speak with him I always feel like he wants to help me. He’s the best coach in the world.”

Mauricio Pochettino
“He is like my football father. We are a generation of coaches that were his disciples. How he feels football, the passion he has for football, I think we all took that from him.”

Johan Cruyff
“Marcelo Bielsa’s Chile played the most attractive football in this World Cup.” (2010)

Diego Simeone
“I have the influence of several coaches: Bielsa, Eriksson, Basile, they have all left a mark. Bielsa taught me the most.”

I never gamble ever, I had £25 on it.

Money.

We made a profit on him, we could never make a profit on Assombalonga after what we spent on him.

It'll always go down as a big mistake, he's got so much more about his game, but the decision will have been almost purely financial.
Once players have a contract it's a sunk cost. Financially, we'd have been better of giving Assombalonga away for free.

We may as well have done, in fact, he is playing like we did and then loaned him back.

And of course this website has exact details of what every player earned every season.
Covering signing on fees, loyalty bonuses, appearance fees, scoring bonuses, image rights. All calculated exactly the same way and of course all spot on.

Bamford was up there with Britt as a high earner for us, it’s as simple as that. It’s no shame that you didn’t know that. Don’t worry.

Your mind will be well and truly blown when you hear Bamford was on £40k+ P/w at Chelsea as well.

Best you get in touch with your silly website because it shows he was supposedly on considerably less than £40k while a Chelsea player on loan at Boro, Norwich and Burnley prior to signing for us permanently.
So which is it Paul, because it can't be both.

Congratulations, that’s Trumpesque techniques in trying to prove your point

So you are now actually saying he took a pay cut to come to Boro then? Of course he did, no wonder he was keen to leave 😂
