Updated: Oh no they do not... Fuenlabrada give up their chance of reaching the play-offs in Spain

Fuenlabrada have just given up the chance of playing their last match of the season (against Deportivo). Just been announced. This means that they are not in the play-offs for promotion to La Liga.

The match was cancelled due to some of their players testing positive from coronavirus. Now they have 28 people with the virus.

It would have caused absolute chaos to the remaining fixtures if we had to wait for their match to be played. Before the play-off places could be confirmed.

Now we know that Zaragoza play Elche and Almería play Girona in the play-offs. I will be praying that Stuani does not score.

My most local team CD El Ejido 2012 got promoted last night. 1-1 draw in the play off final. They were promoted as they finished higher in the league. Avoids a penalty shoot out. Up to Segunda B. A set of 4 parallel leagues 2 below La Liga.

If I was in that position I would want to pursue every possible avenue to get it played. 28 positives though is massive. How do you navigate that mess, would take weeks and weeks before you could safely say things were clear. By then the other team might have an outbreak.

You called it. Not exactly. Just close.

Almería has just announced it has 1 player who has got it. From the latest tests. Asymptomatic and isolating now. Training suspended at present.

This play-offs / Covid thing is getting far too complex with too many clubs being affected, so i think the obvious solution is just to promote Malaga instead (y)
Good try. Zaragoza has just announced a case I think. Another play off team.

I guess they might end up scrapping the play offs and reprieve the 3rd bottom La Liga team from relegation otherwise all leagues in Spain will not be able to start 20-21 indefinitely..........?

Almería and Zaragoza should not be a problem. As long as they are contained. The big issue is the 28 cases at Fuenlabrada. Apparently there is some form of hearing going on now about Fuenlabrada..

Think Girona are currently clear as well, but they’re obviously in Catalonia which is one of the spike areas

Stuani won't score. He'll be saving himself for Bielsa and Leeds.
21 mill to link up with Paddy again.
Do we have a sell on clause?

@spanishman

I see Coruña played Fuenlabrada last Friday and lost 2-1 - Coruña still relegated though

So, Girona for you then - snd I suspect the opponents you’d have preferred not to have - first leg Thursday, 2nd leg Sunday

Luckily we have only had 2 cases in our players recently. With the last one long enough ago for us to be training ok now. Our players are now encamped in a hotel in the centre of the city. Since Sunday. To try to avoid any more cases. Will keep my fingers crossed for the match to go ahead on Thursday.
