Ever wondered what was there before the new industrial town of Middlesbrough was founded in St Hildas? Come and join us at Myplace to learn about the latest archaeological investigations in St Hildas. On Wednesday 25th May at 2pm join Salford Archaeology Project Officer, Oliver Cook as he presents his findings from this month's exploration of St Hildas. Kindly supported by developers BCEGI, this is part of Middlesbrough Local History Month 2022.

Very interesting. Can you find out if anything will be made available online later for anyone who cant make the live event?

I have just been asked that by someone from the archives. This is very much an interim event - as in the dig only finished last week and everything has yet to be analysed and written up. We really hope that there will be further investigations as well. Am very keen to do my bit to make sure everything that is discovered is shared with the public. I believe the Mayor is also very much of this opinion. So, if we can put something online after tomorrow we will but also watch this space as there will hopefully be more investigation and information to come - we really hope we might soon be able to answer some questions about the medieval priory cell. In some ways this project is starting to rewrite the pre-history of Middlesbrough - Life Before the New Town of 1830.
