It was Southgate wasn't it ?Yes. What a player we had. Downing got the plaudits, but Morrison was quality at the same time. Who on earth agreed to sell him for a bag of balls and some new paint?
Can't remember reasons for sale.

I'm not sure he was underrated tbh.I think we’ve missed Tavernier out too…
A top Prem player.
So over-rated then?I remember Anthony Peacock looked amazing during the FA youth cup final. Reminded me a bit of Juninho but he ended up spending his career playing non-league football.
Harry ChapmanSo over-rated then?
A bit like that young lad that scored a televised wonder goal for the youth team and we all wanted him promoting to the first team.
Transferred to Blackburn then drifted down the leagues. Can't remember his name. Harry something?
Losing Boateng, Cattermole, Morrison and Rochemback over the space of two summers and replacing them with Shawky, Digard and Gary O'Neil was some of the worst transfer business in our history. We deserved relegation.Downing - Cattermole - Morrison - Johnston
What a solid, well balanced midfield 4 that would have been for us!
He might never have discovered her was a free kick expert though; no sign of that when he was here
I thought he would have made enough out of football to chill for the rest of his life. Guess not. Mad that.Andrew Davies is a lorry driver now!
You will be amazed how many pro footballers do this still from all levels, seen quite a few, I’m shaking my head. Few years back, Boro academy player, 16 years old, playing there, full grown lads were trying to smash him all game, I wouldn’t risk that in a million of years.Plays at Goals Teesside on a Monday night so can't imagine he's the brightest risking injury there.
Massively underrated. I loved him. Always his outside of the foot ball to Whelan v Sunderland away.Phil Stamp. I think people underestimate how talented a player he was. And he did a really decent job for the team almost every time he played for us imo.
Big house in Wynyard. Probably decent sized mortgage. Didn’t play many years at the “top level”. I guess he’s an example of how lower league players don’t make great money and it’s usually all over by 33.I thought he would have made enough out of football to chill for the rest of his life. Guess not. Mad that.
Stampy was a VERY good footballer, but lacked the necessary off-field discipline just as he started to really blossomMassively underrated. I loved him. Always his outside of the foot ball to Whelan v Sunderland away.
And his part in one of our greatest ever goals (imo).Massively underrated. I loved him. Always his outside of the foot ball to Whelan v Sunderland away.

Probably can't get near to them either in fairness.Hackney used to play there too.
I played a tournament years ago with Charlie Wyke in our side, he was at Bradford at the time. Said loads of players do it to keep fit in the off season and run off their holidays, but if they get caught they get fined. Also said he’s not really worried about injuries because most who play there don’t have the power to hurt them.
