"Teesside has been named the UK's first Hydrogen Transport Hub by the Government.

The area is poised to become a "global leader" in the green hydrogen sector, creating hundreds of jobs, following the Department for Transport (DfT) announcement on Wednesday.

The centre will develop and test new hydrogen technologies from cars to boats and planes, bringing together industry, academia and central government."

Does that mean I need to sell my Tesla?

Good news actually. I think Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles should be the way forward if we can build the infrastructure.

is it because no one will notice the difference if the cars explode?
;)

but, seriously, could be positive

Where does the H come from?

Electrolysis is very expensive, and using CH4 kind of defeats the object somewhat?
Drilling for oil and refining it so you can run it through your V8 is expensive too. Its got a lot cheaper though now people know how profitable it is

Any investmnt is better than the usual nothing but a Test Centre next to TWI is hardly a massive shot in the arm.
Pale Blue Dot in Scotland, The Humber/Drax Scheme and Hynet in the North West are all much better placed in scheme potential and with more better Industry partners behind them are in a much far position to suckle on the Hydgrogen/Carbon Capture teets.

Are they doing it though. A quick google of those companies shows that they are doing pretty much what we are doing here on Teesside, ie huge carbon capture schemes. Blue dot does mention diluting the natural gas supply with hydrogen but I couldn't see anything about transport. As we currently produce over 50% of the UK hydrogen I would think we would have a good chance of capitalising.

The other schemes also incorporate Carbon Capture - attrractive for Govt subsidies.
Blue Dot will upgrade the Number 10 gas Feeder for transport to depletes North Sea oil and gas resevoirs offshore
The Humber Scheme invloves a new pipeline from Drax to Easington & uses depleted resvoirs offshore
And the North West Scheme uses a combination of new pipelines and the offshore cavities off Liverpool Bay

They're all in competition for the £2 billion in Govt subsidy. If we were to get the real investment pot it would be a first.
But there's no real political gain in our area........ so another reason it won't be Teesside.

Net Zero Teesside are also doing carbon capture and are planning a huge storage farm under the North Sea.

Compared to the other schemes the regions carbon footprint is smaller. And sadly getting smaller if the recent rumours come true.

Well you may be right, but the thread and the linked report are about Hydrogen Transport and states that "Teesside has been named the UK's first Hydrogen Transport Hub by the Government." It continues: "DfT says Tees Valley is "perfectly placed" to reap the benefits of such a move, amid plans for the world's "largest hydrogen refuelling facility", backed by Government."

Carbon capture is a bit off topic but it seems that what we are doing is pretty much the same as the other sites.

Sold the V8 last week

Apart from nuclear, which I believe is the best solution for our energy needs (controversial I know), I'm all for any kind of fuel that isn't dug up out of the ground. BP has got their strategy for the future right as far as that's concerned, and Shell not far behind.

As for H being explosive... er, isn't gas andpetrol too and we've managed ok so far with them?

The thing is BBG, it’s important to remember to be negative. Heaven forfend anything remotely positive being proposed for the area should be seen as such. I think we should build a big rock we should all hide under for fear of making a success of our area (again).

I wonder how much negativity B&V were met with back at the start of the infant Hercules....🤔🙄

Aye, what were we thinking wanting to be in on the ground floor with some new technology.
