UK delayed lock down too long - stating what was obvious at the time

Not sure I believe it would have been halved, taking more action when it hit in China may have rather than sitting on our hands

We didn’t follow the science
Sage member has said the science said lockdown earlier.
Cabinet thought if we went too early people would not comply for a significant period of time. I wonder what the PMs advisor said at the time?

Cases: 1 2 4 8 16 32 64 128 256 512 1024 2048 4096 8192 16384
Day No.: 4 8 12 16 20 24 28 32 36 40 44 48 52 56 60

32768 65536
64 68

Assuming a rate of cases doubling every 4 days (the suggestion was 3-4 days).

If you started a week early you miss out on the last 2 lots of doubling.

So 16386 cases rather than 65536.

I remember a lot people on here saying why is our scientific advice so different to the rest of Europe's? Now we know...our scientific advice was flawed and wrong. Or maybe our scientists were too intimidated by the likes of Cummings on SAGE. Economy and fighting covid as cheaply as possible was our policy. Maybe my Mrs' grandad might not have caught it and passed away if we locked down a week earlier?

It was absolutely obvious to anyone who could read a graph, let alone a scientist or a politician who is supposed to be keeping up to speed with it.
The C4 documentary just showed how little Johnson knew about the disease as late as early March.

The answer to this is herd immunity. It was a deliberate decision by the government (not the scientists) to adopt this approach. It was implied that it was something that Cummings chose to push as the best approach.

There is a link somewhere on this board to a Sunday Times article that explains in detail what happened. I will try to dig out a link to it.

If this government was an animal it would probably be put to sleep - absolute incompetence and gross negligence on so many levels. Don’t get me started on the so called Prime Minister
