Uche eh eh?

Thinking about Flint from his days here, I'd have been fine with his limitations if his strengths were actually that strong. He was never quite the strong dominant presence he needed him to be.

Bamba has shown himself a better old school stopper already. And he's well ahead when it comes to playing simple but effective balls out from the back. Flint used to play simple balls out for throw ins.

He was signed for days like this. How often have we been the ones dominated by imposing centre halves, getting no where near set pieces, conceding to them instead etc.

Flint's a donkey. He always looked so vulnerable having players running at him but Bambas' sense of positioning is so good and he understands when it's the right time to put a foot in.

Agreed, but I can go with that if he's really good at the physical aspects of the game: dominant in the air and against physical threats. He was ok at those, but not great as Uche exposed today.

A 'proper' No9 performance👏

They are a big physical outfit and he occupied both CBs and had them rattled. He will have a big part to play this season. He's definitely 'raw' but I guess at 26 ain't going to change.

Yesterday was a bit like how he played against us for Wycombe.

I did laugh when Watmore went 1 on 1 with Flint. He must have left him 10 yards in his wake....i thought 'I've seen that before'. I can't believe we paid 7mil for him😕

To be fair though, you won’t find another forward in the league as strong as Uche so judging his physicality of of the back of that is a little harsh.

I was calling for him to be subbed off as I really feared that second yellow, but I thought he was excellent yesterday.

Just wish his curling shot had gone in.

Don't know mind, 26 is still fairly young and plenty of 'coaching' years ahead of him.

Good work afternoon from him.

A game of 2 halves for uche, I would have hooked him off a half time, but came out 2nd half different class
What he needed was presumably what he got at half time, just telling to relax a little, Uche you've got these guys in your pocket they can't deal with you stop trying to do too much.

Not sure how McGuiness was still on the field at the end he committed a further three bookable offences after his yellow that I counted. Pack should/could have gone for the high tackle on Sporar. They were easily the worst side we've played this season.

I've not seen a football cliche more apt in describing a player than with Uche and " .. he's got a good touch for a big guy" .. I'm surprised at just how well he controls the ball and holds it up ..

I think the ref took pity on a couple of Cardiff defenders and let them remain on the field. Regardless Uche had the upper hand anyhow - his best game for Boro.

Flint

you know something wrong when you’re buying a centre half based on his goal
Scoring record.

mind I suppose that summed up the regime at the time.

Agree with all the comments and would also add that he both gets free kicks given against him that simply aren’t fouls and doesn’t get anywhere near the number of decisions he should.
