And how come bono gets loads of flak when standing next to him is a bloke who wants people to call him "The Edge". I mean what the **** is all that about? Imagine one of your mates decides he wants to be known as "The Jazzman" or "Ace". You would rip the **** out of him. And yet here's a bloke called "the edge" and we're all supposed to accept that. **** off.

I think Ferguson had a similar Opinion of paul ince when are used to call himself the governor 😆

I've gone for the soso option. Love a few of their songs so quite happy to remember them just by those.

Still haven't found... is a masterwork in my humble opinion.

Wearing a beanie at all times emphasises and reinforces this issue

I get why people don't like them because of the personas of Bono and The Edge - they're a pair of knobs but they haven't always been.

I saw them 2 or 3 times when Boy came out, in smallish venues they were great. Boy is a fantastic album, I Will Follow is a fantastic song. As they've got bigger they've lost their appeal to me, some of the stuff I've heard latterly is dreadful, some of it's ok.

I've no interest in stadium shows or big arenas so I wouldn't go see them now but I see why they appeal to others. I'd have them over ***** like Guns & Roses anyday.

As for slagging the Edge of because of his nickname................do you think his family/friends call him that or by his given name? Still he could have called himself Keef or Fats or any other number of nicknames I suppose......

They lose points for the whole forced iPhone album lark.

Additional points lost for bono being preachy about poverty and tax and then it coming out that the band is based in Netherlands and not Ireland for lower tax purposes

“For twenty years U2 used a tax exemption scheme in their native country Ireland. The scheme was introduced in the ‘60s to help indigent artists and it significantly reduced the band’s tax bills. When this exemption was curtailed in the ‘90s U2 moved the lucrative publishing arm of its operation to the Netherlands. As a result they now enjoy a much lower tax rate—between just 3-5 percent.

“Bono defends the decision to move the band’s business side out of Ireland by explaining they were simply acting like any other business and that there’s a ‘social benefit’ to paying low taxes. He claims U2 is in total harmony with the Irish Government’s philosophy and that tax 'competitiveness' has taken Ireland out of poverty. He blames the ‘cranky left’ for not appreciating the band’s position. Odd then that he would criticize governments around the world for not giving enough to help bail out the poorer nations, all while denying his own government in Ireland U2’s tax dollars to help his own people—It’s worth noting Ireland was hit hard by the Global recession, and has been suffering an economic crisis since 2008, resulting in a 67.5 billion Euros bailout by the IMF."

More points lost for The Edge, the beanie etc

They have some decent songs and some bangers but I’d probably make 1 album our of the lot of them for my taste

I hate 'elevation' woo hoo woooo hoo woooo hoooo!!!! !!!

I can't get over that song enough to find any form of appreciation for them.

I am in the wouldn't open my curtains group. I would also have to go somewhere far far away if they were in my garden.

Also 'the edge'. Case closed.

Their early to mid stuff still sounds fabulous, and I still listen to The Unforgettable Fire and The Joshua Tree as much as any other album I own. Under A Blood Red Sky as well, is just a fabulous live album.

I dont listen to a lot of the stuff after about 1989, because my musical tastes moved on - but up to that point, and in the last 10 years I have listened to them a great deal.

Special mention for One Tree Hill on The Joshua Tree - thats their finest hour for me.

Regardless of people's opinions on Bono, you cannot deny their pedigree as a band and as songwriters. Some classic albums in the past and decent ones up to now.

I saw them play at the O2 a couple of years ago and it was genuinely one of the best live shows I've ever seen.

If you get chance have a listen to "With or Without You" Live from Paris in 1987, the version where they mix it up with "Love will tear us apart", absolutely brilliant live performance.

My favourite U2 song is "BAD" just about any live version, but the Live Aid one was one of the best.

A debate I have often had with a few of my mates is whether U2 are actually any good or not. I apprecaite I'm in the minority somewhat given that they're one of the biggest bands in history, but personally I would think you could just about make a decent EP from their entire collection. Oh, and Bono is a knob.
you cant say they are not good, maybe you don't like them but they are good....very good infact.

Still going today from the 70s with sell-out tours and number 1 albums.

A little better than good, regardless of peoples opinions.
