.

But that’s not the issue I think : who determines what a person needs or deserves . My point is that if I was fortunate enough to earn 150k then at that range I’m paying 50% tax. Why not 100% if they don’t need it. My point was even at 40% they are paying so much more tax than others. I can see why some might think s@d it I’ll take a less stressful job as I don’t lose out much financially

Fine, on that rational I should only pay 10% tax.

Might be controversial but bankers and footballers aside , most people who earn above 150k will be on the 150-200k I guess . These will include doctors , surgeons , leaders of business who employ loads of staff, why should they pay 45%? They already pay massive amounts of tax and are expected to take on massive amounts of personal responsibility , accountability and liability , have likely spent years training … as a percentage based tax , and if I was a doctor working my a&se to help people I’d be thinking screw you I already pay tens of thousands …..
You do know that they only pay 45% on anything over £150,000. They pay tax like me and you at the same rate up to £50,280 and then 40% up to £150,000. Your post is poorly thought out. An average surgeons pay is £70000

There aren’t many doctors on over 150k a year. I’ve been doing mortgages 15 years and I’ve done plenty of mortgages for surgeons/consultants.

People on a 150k are more proportionally better off than people on 20k a year. Who would benefit from a tax reduction

Although that’s correct once someone earns 100k they start to lose the nil band rate. Every £2 over 100k they lose £1 nil rate

Sadly that comment says more about you than any doctor I know.

I think it comes down to social responsibility. People on the breadline also have stressful jobs (frontline workers during Covid anyone).

The day there are less selfish people in this country only interested in themselves (that is not aimed at you) is the day the UK becomes a better place to live.

We should pay the tax to support social services and the poor and we can easily afford it.

I know many people in the bracket you are talking about (including senior health care consultants)) every one of them thought it was a disgrace.

We get it,
We have listened.
Our pockets bulging,
Our small change glistening,
We stride into conference
Confident as thieves
That the knives that were sharpened
Will now remain sheathed
Just for the week,
Which is precisely how long
It will take for you to forget
Our real intentions,
Distracted by some sparkling nothing
As we plunder on and on.

Perhaps Johnnyweetabix would care to look at this table and seriously say that this is just On the tax cuts proposed before the u turn this morning.

Love the "we have listened" line.

Total bullsh*t. Damage limitation and a desperate attempt to save whatever face they can.

Really think we are daft don't they? 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

Their own MPs would have voted it down

’we listened’ - nope, they are just laughing at us.

"We get it and we have listened"
"It has become a distraction".

Soundbite bollox, they were told it would not get through the Commons, even with the threat of the Whip being removed = dead in the water.

What an absolute pair of arrogant tw*ts this pair really are, but thank God they won't be around for long.

I’m guessing on the back of the interviews with her own fellow MPs yesterday, she wouldn’t have got it through parliament, so think she is trying to save face…but it’s way to late for that..unlucky Lizzie 😂😂 #LizTr-U-ss #incompetenceatitsbest
Absolutely this, they are claiming they have listened, they HAVE listened just not to us, but to their MPs who have said they aren't going to vote through a budget that will cost them their jobs at the next election

Was it all a very clever charade? Headlining and focusing on cutting the upper rate - public outcry (rightly), than a u-turn - "we listened" and are putting the rate back up. In the meantime, the bankers and fund managers have and are making money on the market movements and their bonuses are no longer capped. - A classic create some temporary chaos and milk it to the max and pretend to be good listeners and put it right whist your mates wallets are bulging to burst.

Average surgeon salary is not £70k for Consultants. That's only if you include junior doctors. Average salary for a Consultant is £100k. They start on £88k and will be on £100k by year 5. There are also additional payments for Clinical Excellence Awards. Plenty are on £150k+ when you include the private work they do. With the Covid backlog our hospital has surgeons working privately on a cost per case basis on NHS patients. They are getting £500 per case for a knee surgery. They do 4 in a day. This is on top of their £100k average salary. Not arguing whether they are worth that or not, just pointing out that they are high earners.

The reason we tax people that get paid more is because they benefit from increases more. If all staff get a 5% pay increase then the high earners benefit far more. So we even it up a bit by them paying more tax. If you tax and increase everyone's salaries the same on a % basis then the gap between the highest paid and the lowest just gets exponentially bigger.
