Two out to bring one in? We seemed very much interested in bringing a defensive midfielder in on loan and our striker targets seemed to go off the boil with the rise of super Chuba Akpom!

I wouldn’t be surprised if the move for a striker was dependent on us moving two players on..
Akpom/Watmore - Larsen

The sale of Marcus Tavernier looks to have paid for our summer transfer dealings and at the same time it looks like we’ve reduced costs across the squad. Financially at least we seem tighter than a ducks asre!

Yeah, but it's Gibson that has the final word, not Scott.
We yeah, I’m guessing Gibson has set the brief as improving the squad whilst reducing costs. It looks to me like we dragged our heals with a defensive midfielder on loan and then bottled it when it came to dropping the big bucks on a striker.. especially when we have Akpom and Watmore coming up with the goods.

I'm not saying he's not ambitious , but I don't think he bothered either way. If we go up it'll be on the cheap and on his terms. Gibson's main motivation is remaining a big fish in a small pond, Mr FC Middlesbrough.

We are a not a big fish anymore we are a tiddler. We have brought in quality but as newy illustrates the squad is far smaller. The club have massively dropped the ball in terms of midfielders

That said 12 of those players you list never played and quite a few never had a chance of playing. Prudent to not pay them then.

I'd argue out of everyone who left only Tav matters? Many of the out goings hardly had a kick because they weren't remotely good enough.

The only one who actually needed 'replacing' as a priority was Tav.

I mean some of the players above didn't make our bench 😂. So not sure they are relevant other than freeing up wages. You don't need replacing if you've never played.

I'd argue we've replaced two players with one who's far better in most (all) positions? That's a success. Surely?

Did you see the bench on Monday and most weeks? Most of them would walk into the majority of champo sides. We are thin in CM yet the rest of the squad are well above champo average. Wilder keeps moaning about numbers. Yet most champo clubs would love the backing he's had (nevermind wage structure).

Just look at the Sunderland bench. They have 2 CFs at the club and ones now injured. You want to read what they are saying about squad depth.... Not that I'm arsed😂

It's a threat to Newy's list writing capability, that's the main problem.

Why have 15 or 16 decent first team squad members when you can have 30+ crapola hanging around the club so that the gossipers can have fun with team selection scenarios, proposing Olusanya as a defender for instance?

It's not quite accurate though is it?

It's not like all the players you have as leaving were here at the same time.

Uche, Connolly and Balogan for example weren't here at the same time. 2 came in and Uche went out on loan.
I think there's other examples with the young players, certainly Coulson, though I lose track of the other players we had out on loan

And Fisher is as much here this year as he was last.

And apart from replacing tav, every other one is a massive upgrade in my eyes, quality over quantity 👍🏻👍🏻

The only miss from the first team there is Tavernier, all other first team players have been replaced and I would argue improved upon. Of the squad players we will perhaps miss Bamba's and Peltier's experience and Payero's potential, the rest we are choosing quality over quantity imho. No point having a player like Siliki for example on decent money when he's clearly not up to it in the Championship so that we can say we have cover. We are Middlesbrough not Man City!

I would have hall back over lenihan .
Considering Hall got a number of negative comments on here from his time at the Boro i've not seen Lenihn looking any better really

Rotherham are doing ok so far this season, not to sure how much game time he's getting, but good luck to the lad
