Twitter fails to delete 99 per cent of racist tweets aimed at footballers in run-up to World Cup

People are posting whole movies on Twitter and there appears to be no mods doing anything about it. Musk could be in a sh*tload of bother on that score alone from film rights distribution on *his* platform.

Any footballer, or anyone else in fact who hasn’t removed themself from it by now, are only going to be disappointed with things as time wears on.

Just deactivated my Twitter account. I found it useful in the past and got useful information from musicians about gigs and a fair few laughs but it really is a right wing sewer now. Racism, misogyny and every sort of bigotry and no admins. Freedom of speech is not freedom to lie, bully and worse without consequence.
 
Crewless SS Twitter drifting into oblivion. Musk is losing the plot, having been forced into buying a dog of a company that he didn't even want. Can't even get racist crook like Trump back aboard.

Well it kind of is the freedom to do those things, but thankfully we don’t all have to listen to it when it’s crackpots exercising their right to it. We also have the freedom to call them crackpots and ignore them.

No it isn't. Freedom of speech does now mean that racism etc can be spouted without censure but it does on twitter now. Freedom of speech is not freedom if it used to oppress or intimidate others into losing their freedoms. Amnesty International have a very useful definition

Well you said lying and bullying, we can’t totally outlaw those things, all we can do is condemn them and not validate them. If Musk wants to do that he won’t get very far as long as people are willing to sacrifice their precious Twitter handles.

If it goes to the wall, which I hope it does from an anti-social media POV, it will be interesting to see what will take its place/if anything will.

The point is that in the past on Twitter I could report Racism etc. and expect the account to be warned, suspended or even cancelled. As was documented in the OP that is no longer happening. Many people that I was following are leaving or have left. So why should I stay. They are haemorrhaging users at a rate of knots and losing advertisers too.

Yeah I knew that, and as I say we can’t completely outlaw all the things you said. But we can abandon the site.
