Twitter exploring a pay to follow model

If it was just written tweets, absolutely not, it would need to be video content, and even then they couldn't be just a minute or so long, they would need to be full feature, which I can't see happening on Twitter.

Seems to be a million subscription models popping up all over the place now, every TV channel and their dog has one and now the 'free to use' social media sites are trying to jump on the bandwagon.

The only thing I regularly use twitter for is the team news, and its posted here two seconds later, so its a no from me.

I'm not sure Twitter is the platform to introduce this. It is far to niche a market for most. I use Twitter to read a lot of professional content, with many linking to patreon/ personal online subscriptions/ content.

I've always seen twitter as a headline generator, where I can dig deeper as I wish.

No, don’t most people on Twitter want followers to boost ad revenue? Surely it would just be less appealing to the people being followed as they’d lose followers.

I think the only way a Pay To Follow model would work is if followers were given access to content that isn't available anywhere else, similar to how some Patreons work.
That's exactly what they're planning.

The examples I've seen so far are around early-bird access to content. Not really sure it'll take off, but can't hurt them to try.
