TV-sound bar advice

Evening, I am after some advice.

I am looking to buy two TV’s prob 55 inch. I have been looking on curry’s and AO and after a while just lose my way.

I am wanting 4kHD, smart TV’s, but just get confused with all the Jargon, and not sure the benefit of paying £329 or £1,329 per set. Any advice on what I need to be looking out for?

My normal tact is to stand in curry’s and see which picture looks best at a price range I want to pay.

would ideally like to get both for around £1k. Does anybody have any recommendations? Or any other websites I can look at other than the two mentioned.

Bought a 60 Inch LG 4K tv late Feb/Early March last year. Cost about £500 I think, It's decent but a little bulkier than you get if you pay more. In all honesty, now it's on the wall, it's hard to notice any bulk. Picture is good and sound would be good enough without any peripherals, although I'm a fussy type when it comes to sound.
Also bought a wired Sony sounder, surround sound system, which is better than the Samsung sound bar and subwoofer we had years ago. Cost £200.

TV was similar to this:

Sound system is this:

Have been looking at the soundboard with built in subwoofer. In my new set up don’t really have a place for it without it been in the way and on show

Then, I guess you'll need to buy a TV that already has decent sound. In fairness, the LG we bought would be perfectly fine without a surround sound system. I just wanted something a little better. Does make a difference but would be perfectly good without.

I have bought my last 3 or 4 TV's from Richer Sounds, they have some pretty good deals, do a membership discount thing, and have actual people who seem to know what they are talking about in their shop in Borough Road.

I saved about £500 on my last Panasonic 60" UHDTV, as it was "this years model" rather than next years updates model being sold in Curry's etc. The only difference was 3 HDMI inputs rather than 4, so a no brainier for me.

They have some pretty good one piece soundbars that sit on the TV stand and dont need a load of wiring etc, I think the Bose on we have in the living room has a power lead and an optical cable to the Sky Q box. Its more that enough for the lounge. You can spend anywhere between £150 to £500+ for a decent soundbar.

if you get a high end telly you might get away without a sound bar. I have a lg oled 55 inch tv paid a grand for it and the sound is excellent, really dont see the need for a sound bar as well. in my opinion your better of getting a higher quality tv like an oled panel with a fantastic picture rather than a lower end tv plus a sound bar.

Another vote for RS over Curry's.. you get a 6 year warranty from them also & their FAQ / info pages are far better..

I was in that camp as well until I heard the difference a good soundbar makes. (especially some of the new Dolby ATMOS soundbars)

There is no way a flat panel speaker built into a TV can have the same range and effect as a proper speaker. I agree that the new TV sound is good, but its not great.

I agree, but the same also applies to skins bars vs proper speakers. I have an LG c8 and the speakers are “ok” but I’d never just use the tv speakers. I have a 5.1.2 atmos setup and atmos on proper speakers blows any virtual atmos out of the water. Soundbars play atmos and some will virtualise it. If you’re generally talking about really small drivers and having to bounce sound off your ceiling which is the worst form of atmos.

But depends how much you want to pay and how much you can get away with. I would have 5.2.4 if I could get away with it but had to pretend I had no idea my sub would be nearly the size of a small armchair when it got delivered 😂 luckily it’s very understated, downfiring and in matte white so get away with it.

I couldn't agree more. There was absolute no way my misses was going to "allow" a full surround sound system in the living room, and she wasn't really bought into the idea of a soundbar either, until I bought one anyway. Now she thinks its "alright I suppose".

The TV room however is my domain, hence the Onkyo separates ATMOS system. I think it was about a grand, sorry £300 if the wife asks
Money well spent in my humble opinion, especially when playing COD on the PlayStation, as I can hear the direction the enemy is creeping up on me from and take appropriate action.

I’ve got;

Receiver: Denon x4500
Speakers: 5.1.2
Dali Opticon Vokal Centre
Dali Opticon 2 L/R
Dali Oberon 1 Rear Surrounds
Dali Alteco C1 Atmos
Monolith+ DF Subwoofer

Ps5, Nvidia Shield 2019 Pro, N54L Microserver with 8TB Storage, 8 port network switch.

Sonos connect to link up above system with the Sonos system in the house

Funnily enough I was happy with a 20 year old mission system until I dropped one of them day before it all got wall mounted, was a very expensive trip out to richer sounds. Once you hear upgrades though it’s very difficult to go back. We live in a detached house and I’ve got to be careful on volume, the subwoofer is so powerful dialled up it is easily heard in the street in another house indoors burn it’s rare you’d crank it up like that, even on under 50% there is deep bass on par with cinema effects. Got a great bluesy image I downloaded which is full of Atmos demo clips from films like tron light cycle scene and Jurassic park t-tex.

Cost was obscene but I’ll get many years use out of the speakers and sub.
