Trolls off the old board

To be fair if Madrid don't win the league this year then to me it shows a poor league, Atletico are terrible, Barça not firing on all cylinders and yet they haven't pulled away.
Re. Griezmann, I'm not a fan either, it was an ego signing from the president and no fans wanted him. To be fair to him though the defensive side of his game ad tracking back has been impressive, he's obviously good because Atletico have only scored 14 goals this season without him! He's just not the right fit for Barça.

The standard in La Liga this season has been very poor.

It says everything when both Madrids & Barca didn't even make it past the Quarters of the Copa Del Rey.

Real v Man City
Barca v Napoli
Atletico v Liverpool

Wouldn't shock me if all Spanish teams are knocked out in the last 16...

Saying that, Real will certainly feel like City are there for the taking in their current form.

Barca are very fortunate that they've drawn Napoli who are having an absolute stinker of a season.

Still, a lot can change in a month.

fingers crossed for you. So your a season ticket holder? Any players the boro should be looking at from Almeria? Haha
Yes I am.

We picked up an 18/19 year old England under 19 international from Nottingham Forest. Cost a lot of money. Was being tracked by Man Utd - Arvin Appiah. Still young but perhaps could make it big. We will have to wait and see.

Also, we were blocked from picking up a few young players from South America. For Financial Fair Play reasons. The new owner (a sheikh) was trying to juggle money in some way to afford to bring them in.

They are building a sports academy here based on the Barcelona model. Plus there are plans to modernise the ground before the start of next season.

Plus the sheikh is 38 years old and is in the USA recovering from an operation. Suggested to be a brain tumour but not confirmed.

So definitely interesting times.

'Arvin Appiah '

I remember seeing that signing and was shocked!

I meant to follow his development because the fee involved intrigued me, but I've forgot to keep tabs on him.

Hows he been so far?

love that you go to watch your local team, if I was ever to move away from Teesside I would do the same. Good luck with the rest of the season

Ta. I could not afford to do it until this year. My wife's pension has kicked in so we can afford more treats. I have two friends who have been season ticket holder for a number of years. One was (is) a WBA fan - he says that Almería is now his main team.. The other is from Sweden. They saw the big teams here last time we were in La Liga.

They are bringing him on slowly. Has had lots of substitute appearances. Then got a chance to start due to injuries. Had a couple of man of the match performances. Then he had a shocker last match. Taken off at half time. Mind you the whole team were terrible. We lost 0-1 home to a team bottom of the league.

He looks a good one for the future. Not quite there yet though.

I think where possible our policy is similar to what Woodgate said he wants to do. Buy and/or develop youngsters and give them a chance to shine. So they increase in value.

It possibly depends where you go though. When I was in Oz I thought I'd do the same but ended up pining to watch the Boro at normal hours of the day and had as much interest in Australian league soccer as the locals did.

That is true. My nephew works in the footy business in Australia. It is very much small beer.

Or it could be that the political posters have all jumped ship? :)

There's nothing happening to cause a debate. Brexit has happened, the world hasn't ended so nothing to argue about. Boris hasn't done anything majorly wrong yet so it's gone quiet.

True mate, suppose it depends on location

I live in the North West and have no interest in watching any other football league club but I've just moved to a small town that has a team in the North West Counties League so I might pop along and give them a watch from time to time.

I've actually just posted a political thread. Sorry everyone.

I've been meaning to go and watch West Didsbury & Chorlton for a while. I've watched Stockport a few times, always enjoy that in spring. Can't be bothered in winter and always prioritise Boro anyway.

Me as well. Nothing like a bit of friction.

I used to go and watch Cove Rangers in the Highland League when I lived there and that was before Boro commentaries were available online, let alone streamed games. I've only been to a few games since I've been in the States....

I think now we've a fresh board and a fresh start for want of a better way of putting it, we all need to be conscious of keeping things polite and respectful even when we completely disagree. I've been guilty of OTT criticism and mudslinging on the political threads in the past and I'm determined not to get embroiled in that kind of stuff again.

While there are many people who have views I disagree with and have been OTT in their engagement with me too I wouldn't want to see any genuine poster banned - as long as the likes of Rifle etc are kept off the board, as long as we all self-regulate our responses and can debate without getting nasty then even the political threads can be informative and interesting.

I go to a mix of Barça and Espanyol games, Espanyol is easier on the wallet and a more authentic football experience. I'm pleased when Barça win but I don't feel any big emotions like I do with Boro. I was more into them a few years ago but I don't really like any of the players anymore except Messi. I used to love watching Mascherano and Dani Alves inparticular.
