Treasury moving to Darlo

Good news - Its important to get some civil servants away from metropolitan areas to areas that are more economically left behind. If they went to Leeds or Newcastle it would not really be moving to left behind Britain. What's Darlo 9 miles to Teesside.

So what does the 750 jobs figure mean? Is that 750 new jobs for people in Darlo or is it 750 existing treasury people moving north?

It can only be seen as good news for this area, if true.
Similarly a real Freeport if true.
I'm not saying they are wonderful things overall - I don't know enough - but they can only be good for our area.

750 is a big employer. Even if 50% are moves from the south its still a boost for the economy and for the opportunity of the young people

If the port is done properly, it could be a real boon for the area. Tilbury reapplied for its freeport status, and we all know how busy that place is.

Fantastic news. We just need the Freeport announcement this afternoon to go our way now for a double bubble

Great news, hopefully, they don't all live elsewhere and end up working from home, or the jobs move up here before even more transition to home working.

A big 750 person office seems a bit 1990, but I'll take it.

But isn't just about the jobs as welcome as that is. The Treasury hold sway across all government decision making since they hold the purse strings. So having those decision makers actually experience life in Teesside / Durham / NE can only be welcome when it comes allocating budgets for other investments. As said above, would the decision to stop HS2 in the north to Leeds have been made when some of those allocating the resources to that project are based in Darlington?

Good news
It's brilliant news. With a new infrastructure bank opening in Leeds and the announcements of Freeports in Teesside and Humberside to be but two out of the eight, today is a good day for the North.

It's time we stop kicking ourselves down as a region and get on with bringing back the days where we built the world again.
