Traore

His potential was always immense. But to claim he hasn't improved a lot is ridiculous. He's talked about it himself. Things like learning to slow down a bit. Credit it to him, he's now getting the most out of his phenomenal natural talent.

Those claiming that he was always this good are the sort of people who think the best player at 5 a side is the person who never passes it and ends up running into blind corners. Dribbling is a great ability and gets you off your seat. But you need to learn when to do it to cause the most damage. He has that now. He didn't when he first came.

That said he should definitely have played in the prem. We were bereft of pace and he was still a good player (he's now a great one). He terrified teams. He's the sort of player you cut some slack because the positives far outweigh the negatives. But that I think that rubbed up against Karanka's method. He wanted every player following the same script.
You don't improve much sitting on the bench. You learn by doing. Like everything else in life.

No one is arguing he hasn’t improved since he left Boro, of course has he’s ripping up in the premier league. But it is exactly what I expected him to eventually be, he’s only gonna get better and better. He’s absolutely class, and most exciting player I’ve ever seen play for boro.

Block 21 it must be great to be right 100% of the time.

That's you and the wife.

Nope mate, I’m wrong more than I’m right in life. Got it wrong on Pulis thought he was gonna be a good appointment ended up hating him. Thought Hugill was gonna be a good signing thought he was awful. I gave it big licks about giving Woodgate a chance and it was the right model, in the end I ended up being relieved about getting rid and bringing Warnock in.

I was right about Traore though.

I would rather see a brilliant run by Traore weaving and accelerating past the opposition than a Rudy Gestede goal. (substitute donkey of your choice for Gestede). One of the reasons I watch professional football is to watch and admire skills that the average player doesn't have. A big lump scoring a 2 yard header from a corner doesn't do it for me.

Might be thinking of Bolton away where he absolutely murdered them, can't remember him vs Donnie
Yes Bolton was the one one where he was flying got hacked down and still had time to get up and provide goal for someone else I think but the goal was secondary to Traores run

You lot do make me laugh. I saw George Best get sent off once. Now he was a real schitt player. Saw Zidane sent off in a world cup final no less. Another donkey ?

Read the post, if you're going to be a ****.

He played brilliantly against Bolton, he was then sent off almost immediately against Villa and missed the next 3 matches.

Played one match, but was subbed at half time, and then fell out with Monk and missed the Barnsley match because he was "late for the bus".

I don't think it's bizarre to say that that red card was a fatal blow in their short relationship.

Funny how some of the previous Traore doubters claim he's improved immensely as a sort of justification for slating him before. Effectively saying he was nothing before but now is instantly a player worth £100m (based on pre-covid figures, might be less now, but player values as whole will too probably).

Everyone that loved him before saw that his potential was massive, and he already had the speed and ability to beat a man that was certainly unmatched in the Championship and probably even the premiership. He's pretty much the fastest skilled dribbler in the world, which is some going. His end product was there when he left us, and he was getting assists, despite having nobody to aim for, which was an achievement in itself. He was taring up the legue, that's why his average rating was like a 9, which is unheard of.

Those two goals he created recently would not have likely happened with us though, not because of nuno, but because there wouldn't have been anyone there to get on the end of the crosses. Nuno didn't teach him how to get to the by line and put a cross in, he's been doing that for years.

At the end of the day you're only as good as the players you play with to a degree, you can't get assists if there's nobody in the box. Playing with better players makes you better and also brings other players on no end. Look at what Fernandes is doing at Man U, nobody really knew of him before, but he's unreal and making the likes of Rashford, Martial and Pogba look so much better.

The first time I saw him, when he came on and changed the game against Spurs, I've rated him.

When he was getting pelters on here I was watching him getting to the byline, putting in crosses and also pulling the ball back on the deck to the penalty spot area.

As soon as a manager used him regularly he flourished, he's flourishing now. He's basically doing the same thing but because he's actually got players in the centre who aren't immobile he looks a different player.

He still gives the ball away, players of his style usually do, he's not there to retain possession, he's there to create, he does and always has.

notice the first goal there is not too dissimilar to what he's been doing recently. We just happened to have a man in the box for once

I actually think he’s came back even quicker. He said as much himself that he wanted too. And he might just of.

I may be wrong but didn’t the Wolves manager buy him after we played them ? He clearly knew it
Adama had Wolves on the rack that day and got 2 of their players sent off for persistent fouling. He was as unplayable then as he is now, we had three managers who were criminal in wasting a world class talent at a club like ours which is often short of even reasonable talent.
