Sad news - it was forced to close last summer and will now not reopen until September at the earliest.

"Middlesbrough's Transporter Bridge will remain closed while the extent of structural repair work is assessed."
DETAILS

any bets that it will be too expensive to repair and will become a static museum piece and tourist spot?

it would be a disgrace.

It’s a national monument now, the government will have to cough up, have you seen how much Big Ben is costing?
Big Ben = National monument based in the most important city in the world.
Transporter Bridge = needless cash drain of a knackered old bridge joining to towns together that no one cares bout (outside of a 10 mile radius)

There is no amount of money high enough that would have stopped the work on Big Ben, the transporter bridge on the other hand is a whole different proposition.

Yes but if Johnson Cummings want to level up the north and repay all these newly converted Teesside Tories then this is just the sort of project to get them frothing at the mouth. London belongs to the last decade, the most important city is Wuhan now, the plates have shifted ...

Can't Sirius Minerals just sort us out with a decent tunnel under the tees? Then we can paint the transporter bridge gold and I can stop freaking out about having lived in an alternative reality.
