Transfers....

disaster is overplaying it.

Our best 5 players when we started this model, when scott arrived were. 1) Tav, 2) Jones, 3) McNair,4) Fry 5) Crooks

Thyre now 1) Hackney 2) Azaz 3) Conway 4) Rav 5) Morris

I think people forget just how lacking in quality and value our squad was back then.

It's much better quality and far higher value. The side when he came in was poor and proped up by some cracking loans the following season. Since then we've improved our players. The loans didn't work as well though. If we'd had 22/23 Giles instead of Iheanacho; 22/23 Archer instead of Iheanacho and 22/23 Ramsey instead of playing Bergzorg every week, we'd have comfortably made the play offs.
Get your point but I'm not sure your 5 is better than your original 5 - youve also forgotten about Akpom (and Howson was 3 years younger)

I couldn't tell you Exeter.
The conversations I've had align more with the club making the decision to sign a few more experienced players having just come from an ongoing analysis rather than any single review event.

I suppose you put that plan in to action at this time of the year so it's getting mentioned more now - and would come across like it's been a recent switch to the model. But I don't think that is necessarily the case. That's just my opinion based on what I know though.

I find it interesting that the couple of lads we've signed for the 21's are not being touted as 1st team players. I think Hamilton and Silvera were signings that were hopefully 1st team ready; like Morris. That has obviously not worked out but they were both definitely given their opportunities when they first arrived.

Maybe that is the tweak.... Sign players to build a very strong 21's team (let's not forget we released a lot of 21's players recently), with the hope that they can break in to the first team - rather than have them straight in there. With the new signings for the first team being an already established and more experienced pro.
Hamilton & Silvera were brought in to replace to academy players that couldn’t step up to the first team.. they were sold or release. Same with RVDB

We do sign players with the same profile.. to keep that consistency and to build on a ‘winning formula’ - Ayling was brought on to cover/replace Smith and there are numerous instances of it across the squad. We attempted to bring in Kamara to cover/replace Howson.

Engel was brought in to replace Giles..

The trouble with copying and duplicating and copying again.. is that more often than not we loose a little bit every time.. and some things shouldn’t be copied!

Akpom was not seen as one of our best 5 players at that point, Howson solid, but didn’t have nay asset worth.

Combined, then McNair, fry and crooks were easily the worst of those ten players, with the least value.
