Transfers

i disagree entirely i think its critical we dont depend on young forwards loans from top teams, it doesnt work. We need to be developing or buying in our own price bracket, ie good league 1 or even league 2 players
We need to be the club unearthing the next Watkins or Maupay or Armstrong and selling them for treble what we paid 12-18 months after we paid it, rather than the club trying to get that sort of player on loan two years after their big move.

The loan market worked ok for Forest last season, they now have £120,000,000 to buy their own!!
where did that 120million go when we got promoted because if your read the gazette we hardly broke even in the premier league. if you get promoted with half a team on loan, you are in the situation where you need to spend 30 -40 million just to tread water in terms of personnel in a higher division. So, unless we have an open cheque book on promotion, then its relegation

I think the loan route is critical, particularly for forwards. Many top teams are keen for their younger forwards to get experience and can be picked up cheaply. The players are often keen too and willing to come to teams like the Boro for a season when they might not on a longer permanent deal.
Trouble is if they're any good they end up then costing a fortune, and you're back to looking. If it doesn't go well for them tbey can stop trying as they know they'll be going back to parent club and on the hunt again

Haven't we just done that with Spence?
Yes we have, which is excellent work from those involved. That’s the sort of model we need to try and tap into a little bit more if we can. Picking up players like Jones as well, as he’d be going for similar money to Spence if he keeps up his current rate of development.

The Boro isn’t really flush with cash so we need to make our own, essentially.

Though it does irk me that we generally have such a poor time identifying and signing quality strikers or young strikers we develop and sell on for big money.

exactly its the mason mount or mcdonalds syndrome its gives you a temporary fillip, but ultimately leaves you feeling empty.

I know but the only thing with that is when they don’t perform they’re an easy target to moan about because were Signing league 1 players.
I do agree with it but we need to be a bit patient with players from league 1 or whatever.

On the other hand you look at Balogun coming from a very good prem team it didn’t work. I like most others presumed he was going to be a championship Worldy as he was from Arsenal and we all know what happened. But I think he’s going to be a player in the future who turns class and we’ll all remember saying he was average,

I agree, I think we're putting to much onus and pressure on achieving promotion this season. Brentford built towards promotion on a very sustainable way, I think flogging spence and either buying a player at huge cost, or even loaning them at a huge cost is a big gamble. Getting promoted is very tough, lots of clubs go for broke, when you do that if promotion doesn't happen in that season you then spend years recovering.

Adam Armstrong £1.7m

Scott Twine £5m
Thomas Henry £4.5m
Ellis Simms £500k

Rodrigo Muniz £7m

Make it a combo for me. Not all the eggs in one basket.

We need 5 forwards minimum, so mix it up with permanent deals, loans and cheaper 'projects'.

Sunderland Echo - "Middlesbrough have suffered a blow in their pursuit of Aston Villa forward Cameron Archer. The former Preston loanee has impressed Steven Gerrard in pre-season and the Villa boss has admitted that he would keep Archer ‘at the moment’ and that he has given him ‘serious things to think about’. Sunderland, Watford and West Brom are also keen.

Once Pl clubs sort out squad numbers , it will become aparent who is really available for loans. Joao from Reading , a bit injury prone granted would be a decent option for me dependant on price

I’m totally against the loaner route — what’s the point of having players in your team who aren’t really yours? Granted there maybe a need to have one one or two but when they’re not part of your long term strategy they can easily switch off just as Balogan did last season. Moreover, if we’re involved in a relegation scrap can you really count on those players who will be returned back their parent club at the end of the season? No is the answer to that simple question.
I hate loanees too but sadly that’s where we are in this new order of things. Forest were promoted by getting in 4/5 good loans
