Transfer fees post Covid 19

Policy on this could will make a big difference next season. With clubs on the brink of survival , if those with a big private source of private income like ours we could well have a big advantage.
Its time for Gibson to be bold like he was back in 1992 and steal a lead on our rivals.

Could sit back and wait and see until other clubs set the benchmark but fortune favours the brave and let US set the bench mark. After losing some big earners off the wage bill we have the clout to do it.
All under FFP of course .

As back in 92 once we get one big player in others may follow.
Who could be the Merson , Barmby , Ravanelli this time ?

How about Norwich's Pukki ?

It might just be an exciting promo challenging season if we get this right.

Yeah let's make Gibbo spend more of his money to satisfy our oh so supportive fans!

"lets make"

Been doing it for the last 34 years - he obviously likes doing it. - and no one has ever made Gibson do anything. Probably why he owns Boro and you languish on this board.

Does he do it for us or does he do it for himself ?
Either way he does do it.

You got to spend your money on something. His budget is bigger than mine and you can't live a Lada lifestyle all you life

what date do you envisage as being 'post covid 19' ?

just so we can steal a lead, like.

to give you a benchmark to play with , the blonde borisopotamus says summer of 2021, and he dont know his @rse from his elbow.
Dont you know? Its November 14th at quarter past 2 - I thought this was in the public domain

All this current crisis will do is actually exacerbate the gap between the haves and have nots. The PL are not dependent on gate revenue. The rest are. The days of 94-6 have long gone for us.

I was talking to my cycling mate, along with George & Wilf, while resting at the Riverside

How would Gibbo & other chairman for that matter, play their money available hand, not going on ST money, as we're unsure when fans will be allowed in, sponsor money, merchandise, league placing money etc, how much will Gibbo make available, while holding money back incase we go into lockdown again, it will certainly be an interesting pre season for all clubs

Outside the Premier League. The PL clubs have very few of the issues that we as a Club face. They have a global tv audience who are paying them.

Yea I was referring to the Championship, as you rightly pointed out the PL have a global audience
Gibbo will see what Neil Warnocks plans are & take it from there

FFP - controls what you can and cant spend in the transfer windows - its designed to protect the biggest clubs (theres very little thats fair about it).

so even if Steve Gibson wanted to spend 50, 60, 70 or 100 £million - of his own cash on his football players, he isnt able, it will breach the regs.
FFP does not exist. Selling you ground and renting it back is not fair play. But it has served no purpose for those that did

I dont think there will be any deflation in transfer fees. Clubs will sell on their terms or stick with what they have as we have with Britt. Even clubs in financial trouble will try to attract bidding wars for players that might be wanted elsewhere.

Gibson has already spent more money in the last 2-3 years than most of the other champo teams, people forget that, you can keep throwing money around, it will make no difference at all if you let the lunatics who run the recruitment department spend it

We need to find players like Friend and Leadbitter again.....

Friend: £576k
Leadbitter: Free

I'd rather have 10 George Friend type signings for £5m than 1 Saville for £8m

Yes all of the 'George Friends' type of signings for £500k might not be good in the long run - but at least 1 or 2 will be worth it

I think you'll still see the big fees in the PL, but outside of that then I'd expect to see a lot of loan moves and a few very modest fees. Wages are the biggest draw on a clubs finances so it would make sense to take say 500k for a player who might cost you a couple of million to keep on the books for the rest of their contract. Once you free up wages then you've got a bit more wiggle room to reshape the squad.

I thought it was £100k Juninho, how much was Adomah £1m, another bargain

On the contrary I think we should avoid paying any fees and look to pick up frees and transfers from struggling clubs. The lunacy of paying big fees for players with three years left on their contract got us into this mess in the first place. There will be loads and loads of frees available this summer.

FFP is one of those things that would be applied if we breached the rules. That's not my Boro chip weighing on my shoulders, just a general comment on how some clubs seem to have different rules applied to them.
