Train special for Sunderland

It hasn't been advertised, god knows why. There is a football special running from Middlesbrough station to St Peters(nr SoL) on Sunday. Leaves Boro at 1010, arr St Peters 1100. Returns St Peter at 1441 arr Boro 1530.

I bet its cheaper and quicker than the supporters buses. No good if you want to do some 'sight seeing' before the game though haha

What's 7 coaches about 350 boro fans? Still leaves a hell of a lot travelling independently

Although it's been said there will be no escorts, I can't imagine the special will disgorge is contents at St Peter's with no police providing a welcome.

There will be police there but not a shield wall etc. They won't be wearing helmets and visors etc.
You will have an hour to get in. Bars open inside ground. Bar 30 is the best bet, the long bar has a capacity of 2200.

Middlesbrough FC now showing Special Train departure as 10.07am. And arriving at 10.55am. Both timings 2 or 3 mins earlier than advertised yesterday.
Best be early.

Got some details about this - fault with communications was Northern Rail - they didn't let anyone know.

Anyway - 1st train leaves 9.30am
2nd - direct train leaves at 10.10am and has a 400 capacity - it will arrive at St Pauls 10.57am - 10 min walk from there to turnstiles. SIX turnstiles open.
Return trains - special leaves St Peter's at 14:41 - police and stewards will ensure everyone makes that.
Next train has been diverted to stop at St Peter's at 14:48pm - normal service back to Teesside.
After that next train is departing from Sunderland Station 15:57 (not from St Pauls) all the normal stops towards Teesside.

Boro have just been given all this info and will be publicising it tomorrow.

No. I was in the meeting on Thursday evening when Northumbria Police informed Boro fans and Boro about the Special train. Boro haf not been told. I also told Northern Echo and Gazette today - Northern had not informed any of them. Really poor
Luckily I have friends at Mbro Station who told me the ticket office opens 8.15am on Sunday and it costs £8.30 return.

Yes but the rail company did not tell anyone including Boro about their train. Why would they not do that? They have still not sent out any ticket details. My friends at Middlesbrough Station gave me ticket office details.

Did it get stuck on a hill and have to reverse back and have another go?
Yes. Yes it did.

When it finally arrived we were marched by the police to the ground, horses et al, and when we came over top of the hill behind the away end they just moved aside an said off you go and it was all charge through the car park to the turnstiles. We only just got in not long before kick off due to the hill climb incident. Great day out. Always remember the ‘Bruce riochs red n white army’ change between the standing end behind the goal and the seated section to the side. Think there was about 14k in the ground and about 8k were Boro. Was a bank holiday Monday if I recall correctly.

I recall reading Don Revie's account of being taken to Roker Park on a packed 'special' as kid. They put him on the luggage rack!
My own more recent recollection is of the train being pelted with stones at Easington Colliery. Mind you, I had the same thing happen in Redcar in the 80s..

Stewards confirmed they are DBS checked, which was nice of them to confirm. Easy in, no bother, very friendly.

Darlo away. The mad one in the 80's. Emergency stop got pulled on the way back from that one (somewhere near Thornaby I seem to recall?) and it was everyone off and hike it from there. The carriages received some serious interior decorating on that trip. Complete mess.

Great day out that.
Remember being stood in the big (packed) open away end and suddenly seeing hundreds of Boro fans coming towards the ground down that hill.
That must have been you lot on the train :)
Seem to remember a similar feeling at Hull as they had an attached rail halt.
The feeling was - just as you thought it was already packed here comes an extra batch of travelling hordes!

Random memory - seem to remember fans singing the along to the Theme from S-Express that was playing over the tannoy

Also great wing play by the reverend Alan Comfort who left about three Barnsley playes bewildred and on the deck as he skipped past them
