Train derailed was 0638 Aberdeen-Queen St Glasgow. It stopped south of Carmont having seen a landslip. It was returning north, initially on the southbound line, then on the northbound having crossed at Carmont. It then hit a second landslip and derailed as it was returning to Stonehaven
I remember similar line issues in Scotland and North East England in 2012. At the time I was working in Aberdeen so a regular on the train. That summer was very wet and landslips happened in a few places.
Sadly it is a legitimate photo. It’s a Scotrail service comprising two HST power cars and four passenger coaches. Mk 3 coaching stock has an excellent safety record but hitting a huge landslide like that and and there’s is bound to be a lot of damage.
