Tour de France (Contains Spoilers) 🚴🏼‍♀️🇫🇷

Delighted for both Pogacar (particularly having to do it on his own for most of the summit battles) and also for Richie Porte who made the podium for the first time.

Never seen anything like that. truly jaw dropping. There were a few said last year that Pogacar was a future winner but that was just unreal.

Roglic just died out there. Behind Porte and WVA, behind Dumoulin too who wasn’t at his best in the tour and stuck with the TT bike. Watching Roglic go so slowly past the Lopez was painful, almost at risk of a drafting penalty. Just shows how far gone he was since Lopez had a nightmare too. Wonder what has happened?

At least with Froome’s the incompetence of the chasers contributed and even Dumoulin blamed the group he was with.

Listened to a WVA interview at the end and he just said something wrong with Roglic basically, his “cadence went on the last stage”. Said he should never have lost more than a minute to Pogacar, and would never come behind WVA normally.

As I said when discussing JV and ketones "And of course they haven't actually won this race yet.". Great theatre. Up there with LeMond beating Fignon on the last day TT.

I was thinking of that when watching. That was the first tour that I watched avidly. But that was really close, down to the wire. This was nuts. Pogacar in a different league to everyone else today.

Just watched the whole of today’s coverage as I recorded it and made sure I didn’t see the results.

I’m floored, what a ride, what a talent, scary what his future holds.

total goose bump excitement.

Brilliant ride from Porte too, unluckiest rider ever and a great recovery from the awful crash a couple of tours ago.

Nice article. I wondererd why he was hanging at the back of the peleton for a few days - not his usual style. I always keep an eye on him and when he was with Caja Rural almost had a daft £5 bet on him one day winning a GT. Charly Wegelius was another rider who I kept an eye on during his career, really talented but usually working for somebody else.

Has anyone ever lost the yellow jersey on the final stage?
I guess it could only happen through a bad crash.

Is it seen as unsporting to try and get in a breakaway or attack off the front?

I think also because JV have such a strong team Roglic always had team mate leading him out unlike yesterday. I’d be interested to see how long that push was at the cchange of bike?

Yes famously in 1989 but that was a Time Trial and since then Stage 21 has been a formality, - a lap of honour for the jersey. They even allow him to sip champagne now with his team.

TT at beginning or end of Tour?

At end it gives a different test as stated above (Roglic unprotected).

At beginning, forces more challenges on Mountain stages through the Tour.
