Top Gun: Maverick

I seem to be one of the few my age(49) who didn't like the 1st TG, have to admit quite enjoyed new one, old fashioned action flick

Went to the IMAX to see it on opening night and absolutely loved it! The perfect mix of cheese, action and music. The storyline was good, but in my opinion didn't need to be great.

It was a massive nostalgia trip in parts from an original movie that I loved as a kid and still do!

Bravo Tom! (Everyone in the IMAX clapped at the end too, there were some cheers during the film too) And I actually thought it was a great idea to get the love interest in, despite someone above saying it was shoehorned.

For a person who only saw the original on Saturday night (in anticipation of going to see Maverick on Sunday), I thought both films were fantastic but more so the new version.

Fast paced, cheddar cheese, action film with occasional humour and excellent references to the original. 10/10.

The original is one of my favourite films, as a 33yr old, i've watched it loads and haven't been able to watch the new one yet due to work but i'll get round to it this week, if its half as good as the original which some people are saying it is, even better some say, i'll be impressed!

the plan was always to watch it when it came out in the cinema but well things happened but today finally I saw it on the big screen ( last week at show case)

Wow I’ll echo what others said I loved it. a love letter to the original but still new enough to have the same wow impact as the original. The cinematography is stunning. That feeling of being in the cockpit was thrilling.

Lovely tribute to Tony Scott at the end.

Yes I enjoyed that ( better late than never).

It was worth the wait.

You’ll prob never get a film made like this again in this way again as it all real time filming - pretty much and it really shows doesn’t it.

At the insistence of Tom Cruise, minimal green screen and CGI aerial shots exist in the film, and even the close up cockpit shots were taken during real in-flight sequences. This meant that much of the cast had to undergo extensive G-force training sessions to withstand the physical demands of G-force pressures during flights.

I have a unfounded and truly illogical dislike of Tom Cruise as an actor. When I have watched his films(Interview with a vampire, War of the worlds and Edge of tomorrow immediately spring to mind)I have actually enjoyed them and find him to be a rather versatile actor. But when I am looking for a film to watch and I see that Tom Cruise is in it my stubbornness and mind block kicks In and I skip to the next film.
He's my Kryptonite. I quite liked Vanilla Sky and Eyes Wide Shut, but I get a sick feeling in my mouth in pretty much everything else I've ever seen him in......never seen the first Top Gun, I refused to watch something that appeared so vapid, so obv haven't seen the second. If they could CGI him out of it and replace with Salma Hayek then I'd go and watch it on a 4DX screening

I too really enjoyed it. One of the rare occasions that the sequel lives up to the original in terms of been as good if not better.

The ending was a little off for mez the whole sneaking about bit, but Hollywood is gonna Hollywood isn't it?

9.8/10

Yeah, but the flying scenes were a big part of the film so it's a bit daft saying the film wouldn't be as good without them.

I meant the impressiveness of the flying scenes. As many have stated on here they are superb. If they had all being CGI and less edgy it would, in my opinion, been a terrible film.

But we all have opinions, especially on things like films. I love that you call me daft for giving my opinion on a thread about the film as your first contribution. You have really added to the thread. Good work. Keep it up (y)

But I didn't actually call you daft did I Mr Sensitive?
Nor did I criticise your opinion of the film, just your logic in saying it wouldn't be as good without the amazing flying scenes.
Similar to if someone said that they enjoyed Titanic but it wouldn't be as impressive without the boat. Which would also be a daft thing to say. But not necessarily by a daft person.
