Too early yet.

We don't know if the current restrictions are working yet - there will be a 2 to 3 week delay so we should keep an eye on the numbers after next Monday.

Shouldn't even be contemplating coming out of lockdown at this moment in time.

Read a report tonight that said social isolation has led to a drop in how many people an infected person will pass covid 19 on to. 0.82 instead of over 3 previously.
WHO guy said constantly being under 1 to 1 will see the eradication of the disease.
Some good news anyway.

Now is the time to redouble efforts and properly knuckle down to get on top of this.

I do worry that people are starting to take their foot of the gas though - on my way to work yesterday lunch time the roads (Bedfordshire) were significantly busier than they have been lately.

All you need in that line is something like ‘ramp up’ and ‘we will beat this’

Ha, maybe so. But I do believe it’s right though, and is the only thing we the public can do. It’s clear those in charge are making a bit of an arze out of things which is why I think it’s even more important that the rest of us don’t.

Fabio where in bedfordshire do you live, I am in Toddington, which was very quiet yesterday

I think you are around a couple of weeks behind us here in Spain. The talk here from the government is now starting to be how we manage our way out. Probably starting after Easter as we have a strengthened lock down until them.

That would put you perhaps around 3 1/2 to 4 weeks away. However your lock down is not as tight as ours. So that might change things.

The very sad thing is the large numbers of deaths and suffering we will have in the coming period.

Spanishman, if you are reasonably close to ending the lockdown then it may be the cost in lives may not be as bad as we anticipated at the outset, I hope you are right.

That is not quite what I am saying. Our lock down is a lot tighter than yours. So when we are over the peak demand for medical services we might be able to relax our lock down slowly. Between now and then it is going to be really bad. Then there will be the tail of the problem. As deaths lag infections. We then have to manage until there is a credible vaccine. So this year at least is going to be a very bad one. Even though things might slowly start to get back to normal.

I feel we are in for a very bad 3-4 months. Then some further smaller problems in cycles after that

I think that’s a good point Parmoboy about knowing whether or not the restrictions are working and if they don’t there will be a big lobby in this country wanting to abandon them altogether rather than tighten them up, particularly as the benefit claimant and bankruptcy count goes up.

It's a very good point you raise around the economic impact on the public. I am lucky in as much as I can work from home, and both my employer and the client have a travel ban.

However if you are struggling to feed your family and keep a roof over their heads then there will be a clamour to loosen the lockdown. Starving today trumps maybe getting the virus tomorrow in a lot of peoples minds. The government may have to re-look at the support being offered to business' and individuals in terms of getting the relief funds into individuals bank accounts.

This graph that they show on the evening update is for traffic use and yesterday was the first increase in road traffic since lockdown was introduced, hopefully just a blip, but could be a cause for concern if the trend continues.

Talk all over the news bulletens about when can we come out of lockdown. Far too early to even contemplate that yet.
Completely agree, you only have to look at other countries to show we’ve only just started.
We do need to start thinking of an exit strategy though. No point in just ending the lockdown and having the disease flare up again.

Toddington. So theres life there more than the service station?
Toddington is great Fabio. It has 2 near by train stations into London, 45 minutes. It is much much cheaper than London and surrounding areas and it has a cracking service station, as you so rightly point out!

This is where the Spanish approach is working better.

By law, people cannot be sacked.

We are currently in a lock down of all non-essential services until after Easter. With the workers being paid. You have to make up the time later in the year.

Better support for the self employed (and employed but not working).

Strict rules on when you can drive. Plus only 1 person in a car unless you have a good reason (and paperwork to prove it).

No outdoor daily exercise.

Police road blocks to enforce the lock down.

There will almost certainly be another outbreak later this year according “the experts” in this field

The numbers are all messed up at the minute though, as anyone that gets it will pass it on to whoever is in their house. But once all the household have had it, and are not mixing with other households that's the key.

Problem you have is that somebody that is still out and having to work can pass it to his other half without knowing, then the other half goes shopping and pass it onto another shopper, then that means there is another family infected.
