So apart from today, which goals have we conceded that were Smiths fault then?
 
McNair is a good player technically, but he either loses concentration or lacks awareness. This makes us a poorer team when he plays as it pulls other players out of position to cover. And that's not based on today, although I do think his faults were there to see. No coincidence that he was playing last time we defended so softly v WBA.

If you think Fry for McNair was the only issue, then I am lost for words, were were sloppy and lethargic all over the pitch, only Ramsey and Forss of the outfield players came out of that game with some credit imho. It was a shocking TEAM display, especially second half.

Genuinely believe we win the game if Fry and Mcgree start.
 
He has beenncaught out a few times last few games. His performances could be netter. Results have glossed over his deficiencies. He gives avsteady 7 out of 10 most games despite this.

Guessing McGree was rested due to being ill last week and having a long journey. He is nailed on to start next game, we missed him and looked far better when he was on the pitch.

Defensively McNair a CB made zero clearances, zero! I don't ever recall seeing that stat from a CB. I thought Lenihan did alright, had 114 passes as well, including switching the play quite a lot. But he'll be playing alongside Fry next week.

As for Smith, his form has dipped the last few games to be honest. He was partly at fault for their first and totally at fault for the second.
 
The whole team lacks natural defenders IMHO, not many in that side at all.........thats why we need to spend most of the game on the ball and not defending our penalty box

Agreed, Lenihan and Fry are proper defenders, Howson is ok as a defensive player, that's it really. Add a RB with strong defensive ability and a natural CDM and we will become much more resilient as a unit
 
Thought Smith wasn't good enough for a team playing for top two especially going forward whereas with Giles....ok at going forward but a terrible defender.

Yeah but that's in ONE game. Every player from Maldini to Moore can and will have an occasional bad game, that doesn't make them a bad player.
As I've asked already, how many other times this season has Smith been obviously at fault for us conceding goals, how many other bad games has he had?
 
Under no illusion he would become cover if we’re to get promoted but also under no illusion that if we stayed championship he would be our first choice right back. Ridiculous thread
 
Off the top of my head goals we have conceded this season that Smith is to blame for

Wigan at home
Birmingham away

I just don’t think he is good enough for us and it’s an area we need to improve if we are in the prem or we want to get promoted next season

he’s having a torrid time of late. Think I said during the good run I thought he was our weakest player.

It isn’t a surprise now that a bit of data on carricks team they target the right
