I was going to do a 'Tommy Smith appreciation' post. So thanks for this.
I would say he's one of the most underrated players in Boro's squad. Although I'd argue his stock and praise is rising weekly. He's has been outstanding for weeks. Just a proper depandable 'pro' who Carrick clearly rates.
He's solid in defence and very under rated going forward. A few times today he was in so much space yet not found with a simple ball.
I'm probably in the minority and call me 'old fashioned' yet I prefer a RB who can defend. It's not all about getting forward Jones or TAA

While we're at if, we could do with 'mirror image' of Smith at left back.
Hope not.... We will sell him and spend millions and 4-5 years trying to find 'as good' or betterReminds me of Luke Young a little bit, in that he’s very consistent, always seems to be a 7/10. Works very well with Forss on the right.
Or worse, get Justin Hoyte on the cheap and by stuck with him for what felt like 4-5 yearsHope not.... We will sell him and spend millions and 4-5 years trying to find 'as good' or better
I often wonder how good some of those ‘rubbish’ players of bygone days would look in this team.. especially those from our Premier League years.Or worse, get Justin Hoyte on the cheap and by stuck with him for what felt like 4-5 years
