Tom Pidcock - Cyclo-Cross Worlds

I know there are a few cyclists kicking about on the board, so this video that has just popped up on YouTube might interest them.

I doubt if many of you follow cyclo-cross, but I’ve watched pretty much the whole season this winter which reaches its climax at the weekend with the World Championships.

Having watched nearly all of Tom’s races I think he’ll do really well to finish in the top 5 with the Elites. He could have ridden with the under-23s and been almost guaranteed a gold, but having already won that at the age of 19 it would not be a challenge.

I’ll post some links in here later should anybody be interested.

Oh my, what a wonderful video. Followed his progress for a while now and I first saw him ride on the road a couple of years ago at the Lincoln Grand Prix. Isn't cyclo cross a brutal sport (spikes in the shoes in case it is icy -ffs). Great to see him open up about his demons too.
I know it has been said before but he could have one hec of a future.

You wouldn't like these conditions then TLJ. Namur was a mudbath but produced the best racing of the winter for the men. The women's races have been a much better spectacle most of the winter, and like Tom, Evie Richards is coming back from bad injuries and has a real chance of a podium. A few riders suffered from hypothermia in this race including the World Cup leader Iserbyt.

Great video and cheers for the links too. As well as athletic ability, he has some serious bike handling skills. Tough ask to podium ... and MVdP is beyond pretty much everyone, but he has time on his side.

Yes, it is a good video as it shows the human frailties (if that's the right word) that can lie beneath the surface of an elite sportsman, particularly one so young. I've been concerned from time to time that Tom might one day just pack it all in. On the one hand he's demonstrated that he has the required dedication, but on the other there's the feeling (as shown in the video) that he sometimes must wonder if it's all worth it. I like to see that other dimension in a sportsman.

Can't stop laughing at that exchange with Sean.

INTERVIEWER Who’s your friend?

KURT BOGAERTS Erm, he’s a good friend…

SEAN KELLY An old footballer. I played football in Belgium.

INTERVIEWER What position?

SEAN KELLY Full forward.

KURT BOGAERTS He’s full of shït.

Just a reminder that it's on the BBC red button, Eurosport and live streaming on the UCI Youtube page if you have a VPN that can change your location to outside the UK (Germany will work for example).

The UCI links weren't working for me but I've watched via some dodgy streams in Belgian.

Excellent ride from Anna Kay in the U23 race to take the bronze.

Unfortunately as often happens when the World Champs are held outside Belgium or Holland the course isn't very good with artificial ramps etc, but they've got to share it around i suppose. At least the rain has made it slicker today. I'm not sure if this course will suit Tom or not. Top 5 will be brilliant.

looking forward to it - the women's race yesterday was brilliant

One hell of a finish from Alvarado, I don't think I've ever seen anyone want to win so badly. She deserves it after the season she's had and especially after last week when she lost the World Cup to Worst by crashing in the last few hundred metres.

Yeah, seems like the German VPN worked for the Womens U23's, but I've had to swotch to Singapore for the Mens Elite.

Great ride from Anna to get bronze (y)(y)(y)

Aye, although Toon Aerts usually comes on strong towards the end of a race. Great ride so far anyway, but Van der Poel is on another planet.
