just read about this for the first time. I contemplated making a thread the other day as when I was growing up I always used to fall asleep to this show and other local ones like it. Don’t think there’s much like this now? Remember they used to have all kinds of characters ring up - there was a new York taxi driver that used to ring up although suspect he was a plant as I remember finding out he rang loads of stations so assume they paid him to liven things up.
 
I have a photo of myself and a mate just before the Villareal game. With us are Jamie Pollock and Terry Cochrane and some bloke who kept trying to get in the picture and we kept pushing him out (he was with the 2 ex boro lads).
I showed the pic to my son . He didnt recognise either Boro players but said "oh its Tom from Tom's talk in" when he looked at the other fella. I had never heard of him.

I used to fall asleep listening to this when I was a kid too. I also remember the weekly New York cab driver. Me and my friends would regurlary ring up to wind him up and prank him. I always remember him calling one mate a 'brain dead pillock' for constantly calling him Mot instead of Tom throughout the conversation. Daft things you do as kids.
 
Yeah it was a rite of passage ringing up tom’s talk in when you had your mates over 😂

i always remember one caller going on about how he has bought his kid a trail bike but it was making a mess of the house and leaving oil everywhere, going all over the sofa etc, until it eventually clicked he was using trail bike as a substitute word for dog for a laugh.

Weird how that one always sticks in my head out of thousands of calls. Sometimes they had genuine interventions when people rang up about serious stuff. And you knew someone had swore when it suddenly played a jingle mid sentence while they reset the delay 😂
 
I remember doing it loads. What we said seems totally unfunny now, like seeing how many times you can get Mot into a conversation, but it was hilarious as kids 😂
