Today's Tory sleaze scandal #1

It`s everyday now.

If the Opposition Parties can not use these daily scandals to form some form of attack on the current Government then I may aswell just stop voting

You might have to - I’ve seen a number of articles suggesting the Labour focus on sleaze seems to be widening the gap between them and the Tories. Now I know that sounds counter intuitive but the polls seem to back it up.

And your opinion on the article itself?

You're hardly holding the Tory Party to account as you suggested you would do when called for the other day.

I find the concept very odd that when called out on sleaze the become more popular.

I hate the sleaze and I hope there is a “real” investigation into it and people are held fully accountable. I just have to look at that greensill bloke and his smarmy face makes me feel sick. This large scale siphoning off of money to pals needs to stop.

If there’s a ministerial code and you break, but the prime minister can overrule it, or it doesn’t result in resignation then what’s the points. These people should be made to uphold standards. It should be written into law

Probably cos people think I’d do it if I was in their position

I was thinking about it and I thought you know is a holiday such a big deal it’s just a perk of the job I’m sure rich and powerful people all over the world take kick backs. Is 15k that much but then when you think of it in terms of a bribe which is exactly what it is then it’s not on.

the Priti Patel one I’m sure lots of people in business put a good word in for friends etc but this seems to go way beyond that. The guys obviously part of the clique and ended up getting his mates a big contract at extortionate prices- I would be interested in the explanation as to why they were paying so far over the benchmark.
They are being quite brazen about this and not very clever, hopefully there is enough evidence out there to bring one of them down.

The company I work for has a bribery and corruption policy. I am allowed to take a gift up to the value of $50 dollars without declaring it. Anything more and I have to declare it. I cannot give a client a gift exceeding $50 dollars. I can't even interview someone I know or someone who is related to someone I know or in any way related to a client that I work directly with. If I break any of these rules I can be dismissed, and you usually are.

In a public enquiry, if a judge rules that priti patel has broken the ministerial code, she will loose her seat in parliament, as will Johnson if he has broken the ministerial code with the flat decor. Thats why we are concerned with wallpaper a fact that Warnock should have considerred before opening his dumb mouth.

unless the people are actually interested then it's irrelevant what the opposition say. Ultimately it's the people that hold the government to account or not

are you serious? Pretty much every contract I've done recently has had anti-corruption clauses in teh contract and I've had to sit and do an anti-corruption course as part of induction. This includes two government departments. It is a big deal, because that money comes with an obligation to the person that gave it. Favours, what you are stating is that rich people should be allowed to influence any systems they want, to whatever degree they can, that money should allow you to control everything and anything. What an awful society if that goes unchecked, as the sociopaths burn everything around them.

Where I work, doctors regularly used to take kickbacks from pharmaceutical companies. That was stopped and it is now a sackable offence to take any kind of freebie.

I thought that still went on in the states NY. it really should be against the law and not down to each business. I imagine it encourages doctors to prescribe drugs based on what it's worth to them personally, rather than the patients wellbeing.

Also isnt this how the USA started the problem with codene addictions, from over subscription based on kick backs?

It does still go on - it's just policy where I work and it is enforced.

Totally agree as per the last line of the paragraph you have quoted.

Let's not be naive about this. Where companies have ethical policies it's only paying lip service. Think of them as a competency test with those who can get around the policies without getting caught getting the biggest rewards and promotions.

I can only talk about the organization I work for and it is absoloutely not lip service.

Most doctors are in private practice - that is where the opiate problem originates. That and the willingness of the pharmaceutical companies to supply way more than could possibly be necessary. I work for a hospital/medical school system, so they can enforce their policies. It needs to be a legal requirement, although I can see big pharma pushing back on that.
