Time to start making partnerships.

The squad at the moment are not playing as a team. We need to start off with partnerships, starting from tomorrow. The easiest partnership is a two (as married couples know) so we need to start with that then build it up. Fry and Hall seem to be ok. We need to get our two best crossers playing together to get the balls into the box, so Paddy right back with Tav linking on the right. Bola and Jonesy are the two on the left. In centre midfield get Jonny Howson and (play anywhere) Matt Crooks linking up which leaves Uche and Sporer as the big man / little man strike force. It would mean a four, four, two but let’s start playing as a team, rather than individuals. (y)

I agree. Time to go back to basics. Absolutely nothing wrong with a 442. Every single footballer in the world knows how to play that formation. It also works against any opposition formation too.

I'm watch the Northern League and some coaches try to change the formation to what they've seen Guardiola use but with bogs standard 4-4-2 footballers.

'Ahead of their time' says the epitaph after another relegation

Mcnairs best position is not at full back and hall in my opinion is too slow in a back four, i would stick with fry and mcnair they already have a steady partnership, Tavernier has been very average this season out wide on the right, he is far more effective player centrally. Howson and crooks to me is not are not a central midfield pairing they would be a disaster. Crooks just drifts anywhere he likes and doesn't keep the midfield shape they guy has no discipline. Howson is blowing on **** after 60mins because he is doing the work of 2. We need 3 in the middle to cover the midfields failings. i would rather have Siliki, Howson and Tavernier as a central 3, It adds a bit of pace and mobility.

McNair is best on the bench, he hasn't got a position he's decent enough at for a start at this level but he's a good option to cover a number of positions in an emergency

We've got to try something like this, however grim it might be as a spectacle, coz the current spectacle of clueless defeats is worse.

3 in midfield for me too. Back to basics means trying to stop us getting overrun there and losing control. We don't have players to do that in a 2. Tav needs to be there for his energy, Howson for experience and then one other. But agree some consistency would be helpful so try and keep the same 3 every week.

4 - 4 - 2 may work if the wide lads took turns to tuck in and make a 3 and one of the 2 up front occupied a full back out of possession - effectively a hybrid with a 4 - 5 - 1

I was thinking this exact same thing last night. As you say 4 4 2. It really isnt rocket science. I have no idea why everyone thinks they can play like Liverpool while forgetting they dont have anywhere near the players that they have.
