Time to see how much the government really values nurses

The nurses union has emailed today to say they are asking for a one year pay deal covering 12.5% pay rise for all nursing bands.

Time to see what all those claps were worth. Might get 1.25%, over 3 years 🤡

12.5% :) Master stroke from the union.

TheFair86 - good post.

Anyone who thinks over 10 years of pay cuts for Nurses and Allied Health Professional is a source of amusement or a demand for 12.5% unrealistic, is completely missing the point.

Our Nurses have proven their worth ten times over during the ongoing pandemic.
Its time we recognised those we rely on to maintain the Nations Health.

We expect to be treated 24/7 365 days a year -

critical care
paediatrics
maternity
coronary care
cancer care
neurology
trauma focused care
physical disabilities
mental health
eurology
rehabilitation
physiotherapy
spinal injuries
oral and maxillo-facial care
etc,etc,etc......

For anyone who has ever accessed our NHS - which will include the majority - from being born and onwards>>>>>>>>>>>>>we rely on qualified clinicians to be there when we need them.

At a time when the Tory Government is deliberately attacking the NHS and privatising it [for the benefit of the few not the many] we need to support our nurses.

In addition, we need to support all those in the public sector fighting for a decent wage and all those who work in the private sector on zero-hours contracts We cannot aford to sacrifice workers rights and wages to the myth of "austerity".

We need solidarity, not division and derision.

The "Union" has been forced to fight for all Nursing staff - over decades the RCN was a professional organisation which maintained an arms - length relationship with the employers - but years of sacrifice, pay cuts and a shortage of qualified staff, means Nurses are not prepared to be a doormat for political ideology any longer.

ROYAL COLLEGE OF NURSING FAIR PAY FOR NURSING CAMPAIGN STATEMENT:

RCN.png

Throughout the pandemic, the country has witnessed the most impressive demonstration of nursing, seeing it as a highly skilled profession deserving of fair pay. Without the nursing profession, we would not be where we are today.

But the Fair Pay for Nursing campaign is about more than our response to COVID-19.

The Fair Pay for Nursing campaign is about:

  • recognising the complexity of skill, responsibility and experience demonstrated every day, by nursing support workers, nursing associates, registered nurses and all members of the profession.
  • making sure that a safety critical profession can reach safe staffing levels and fill tens of thousands of unfilled nursing jobs.
  • recognising that the salaries of too many nursing professionals has not kept pace with increases to their living costs over the past decade.

Ultimately, the Fair Pay for Nursing campaign is about providing safe and effective care for all people of the United Kingdom.

The Fair Pay for Nursing campaign aims to secure a fully-funded 12.5% pay increase for all nursing staff covered by Agenda for Change terms, as part of a one-year deal that applies equally to all bands.

How the governments in the UK respond to this demand will indicate what they believe nursing colleagues across the independent sector deserve too.

Funding our health and care system is a political choice. After years of inadequate support for the largest heath and care workforce in the UK, the government should make the right choice now.

It is time to pay nursing staff fairly.

I think they will get it over a 6 year period, theyll pull the skint and no deal Brexit card.
hardly a card is it, you’ve seen how much debt the country has got in, sadly there is no magic money tree to be dishing out 12.5 per cent pay rises regardless of whether the nurses deserve it.

As for the Nurses this should be really interesting to see what fatty and co do.

As for the system.

I think the money lenders have to be more than practical,if they didnt give it out there would be no system left and the people would have finished them off and tried to start again.

As for the the future, the saddling of huge debt is foolish, as to service it at the moment would just stunt any attempt of growth and a return to normal for the next 20 years. We seen the 10 year austerity downturn that the banking idiots created. We need countries to come together and wipe a lot of this imaginery money debt off the books.
The same money lenders get to keep their business with certain terms intact and society keeps moving on

We need sensible leaders to sort this out, they sanctioned the furlough as they knew what would happen if they didnt.

Just to add I think the nurses, care workers and many more deserve a medal for the heroic way they have performed in this crisis let alone money.
As mentioned though I’m not sure the country is in a position to provide this given the current economic climate.

There isnt. However as we're all in it together, would be nice if the richest and those best able to afford it could take more of the strain rather keeping nurses pay suppressed to try and limit the debt.

Crazy thought, right out of the blue, but perhaps something like increasing the top rate of tax to bring it more in line with other similar size economies perhaps?

the money tree was well watered for the 'eat owt' carry on, infact that was a double watering with large dollops of Levington Tomorite & Miracle Grow - lose tax and take from the depleted tax pool to re-imburse the rich, and again last week for the london crossrail budget deficit, no qualms what-so-ever over handing another quarter of a billion for the scheme to get those who live in the western thames valley, easier access to their desk jobs in the city.

this disgusting lot laughed and cheered when they blocked a Nurses pay rise.

the cross rail scenario is a joke - seems they can spend whatever they like no matter how incompetent they are at managing the project.

Spot on
And, take away the pension tax relief for higher rate tax payers saving up to 40k a year in their pension.

We can afford it if we make choices. Suspect the choice will be ‘nahhh’

But there’s a massive money tree to bail people out for 6 months on furlough
