Time for fences again

Seems to be pitch invasions are becoming more and more frequent now, following on from Billy Sharp's assault last night is it time to reintroduce fences before someone is seriously injured?

I would definitely not like to see this return but if not fences what is the answer ?
Of course not, it's not safe. I'm not saying something doesn't need doing though., i'm just not sure what

I'm not sure they will. these idiots are clearly selfish, and only care about themselves. I agree with the sentiment, but it's those individuals who need to be punished, and punished hard.
Yes agree with that, it's not the people who are there week in week out who i see running on the pitch from our area,.

Clean slate for past invasions as a club that is, not individual who attacked Sharp, he needs jail time.
The Law now should be if any fans go on the pitch at any point that team automatically loses its place in the play off final or points if it is normal league game or out of cup if it is a cup tie.
No appeal.
Only way to stop it.

If the football authorities had any morals instead of pure greed, then Forest would receive no tickets for the final.

I doubt we'll have any choice in the decision regarding fences. If the government brings them in then they'll bring them in regardless.
There's a multitude of reasons why they are not the solution, but they are the simplest solution if fans continue to invade the playing area.

How many on here went on the pitch when we went up a few seasons ago. Genuine question?

Should be an immediate ban for anyone going onto the pitch

It's interesting isn't it. In the 80s (under an authoritarian right-wing gvt) football "fans" were victimised, put behind fences, banned from attending and travelling.

Logic would dictate that the current gvt would implement similar measures however the bloke assaulting Sharp is probably their core base so maybe not.
The late 60's, 70's and 80's, had to be addressed. It was at times like war zones, the deaths at Hillsborough and Bradford, Millwall terrorising Luton, I have seen Boro fans create mayhem.

We have moved on dramatically, maybe put cameras on the roof of stands, but then people will say it is a civil liberties issue.

Fences didn't work in the 80s and 90s, I have seen Boro on the pitch at Hull in 88 after climbing over the rotating spikes we used to have as wel. It was early morning knocks on the door, requests to come to the police station etc etc that diminished hooliganism ,but it takes 2 to 3 years and that is where we are at. The police have let things slip.

I think that’s unrealistic to punish individuals on the scale of a full invasion.

Individual invaders yes.

But if the clubs and fellow fans are punished then this will reduce in my opinion. They will no longer be lauded and more likely be given grief if their actions result in fans not being able to attend.

Imagine in Forest had to play their first 10 Prem games in 2 decades behind closed doors. Do you think there will be another pitch invasion in Nottingham or any other club anytime soon? Next years play off finalists won’t invade that’s for sure.

Plus it will force clubs to put stronger measures in place. Like having dedicated security staff and more police in high profile games. Because they will lose out financially.
That will never happen though. Too much money involved.
