Time for an election

If the electorate can vote a govt in if we feel they can do a good job of running the country, I want to be able to vote them out when they subsequently prove themselves to be wholly and entirely incapable of doing so. If I'm shít at my job, I get the elbow, it should be the same for anyone, no exceptions

Not right now obviously but as soon as is practical as you well knew I meant, I’m sure.

Mind as we can do as we please now in terms of movement perhaps it may be easier to organise now than not eh ? (I’m being flippant here by the way - just for clarity)

You could just create an app with a centralized database that links to the electoral roll and allow people to vote that way. I think they might have something along those lines that could be repurposed now that it's intended purpose has been rendered redundant by the PM ;)

Because a government advisor doesn’t follow the official guidance? If it was the PM then fair enough, but this is a media driven scandal, nothing more. The government are doing what pretty much every other government in the world are doing - winging it. Cummings is an idiot who thinks he’s above the law, but it really is a nothing story. There are so many who are, and have been, ignoring the advice, he is one of thousands and probably millions. There are much bigger issues going on at the minute, and the last thing we need right now is an election. In fact it would be almost impossible in the current circumstances.

Brilliant, here comes another one. A "nothing story"?? Sounds like you have fairly weak grasp of reality and you've completely misjudged the mood music

It really is not a nothing story if you think senior members of the Tory government should be at the forefront of setting an example to the nation and following the rules of lockdown spouted out over a couple of months by Johnson and his little band.
I think you are burying your head in the sand, to get it in perspective for you imagine how much you and the blue crew would have been frothing at the mouth if a Corbyn advisor had done this?

5 year term still the law unless there is a two thirds majority for a change of there is a vote of no confidence. Whilst most of us on this board have no confidence in this shower...... turkeys and Christmas? Don't worry we have the post Brexit recession to come following our no deal exit. I predict a riot

A nothing story??
I honestly don’t know how some folk can be so out of touch with what is going on, or are so accepting of being treated like absolute idiots by the government they presumably voted in. It’s astonishing.

We aren’t going to have this for the next four and a half :( years, are we?
I generally don’t get involved in political posts on here. I have no strong political proclivity and have voted for all 3 main parties in my time depending on their respective policies at the time but these people are simply arrogant, lying, morally bankrupt, crassly self-serving careerists with only their and their rich friends interests at heart who have just graphically demonstrated the contempt in which they hold the general public. They have no interest whatsoever in making this country better for the population in general. ‘Do as I say not as I do and let us get on with feathering our own nests, there’s a good pleb’.

If there was an election tomorrow they would win by a landslide again, brexit is the one and only issue for a lot of people and nothing will make them criticise the one who is delivering that for them. If people will vote for Johnson after the way he acted throughout the election campaign then this wont change their minds

An election tomorrow wouldn’t be about Brexit though, that has been and gone. Starmer has said he would not try to reverse it. There is a new battleground now based on the virus, how it has been handled and what happens next. Forget Brexit, that is already something which belongs to last year.

I don’t think there should be a General Election but I do think plans will be afoot to get rid of Johnson if Cummings remains in his position, the current circumstances and large majority means they can take action sooner and have ample time to steady the ship before an election is legally required

Brexit hasn’t gone anywhere, the deal or no deal cliff edge is right around the corner
Yes but it has gone as a vote Tory to get Brexit issue. Millions in this country have no idea and care even less whether or not there is a deal, they just expect the government to ‘sort it’.

strongly disagree that "this wont change their minds". This debacle is an absolute game changer in my view

He got away with blatant sexism, racism and homophobia during the election as well as being caught out lying on numerous occasions and refusing to answer practically anything he was asked, and he won with the biggest majority in 30 years. People will vote who the media tell them to vote for, and the conservative party hold pretty much all the cards when it comes to the media
