Time for a second lockdown?

Im just glad that my wife's cancer treatment finished in December. Id be beside myself with worry if it was still ongoing.

Sorry to hear that, although it’s great that her treatment has finished. My wife is in the middle of a second bout of chemo treatment.
She had to really push for a scan as they were worried about COVID (this was back in May) thankfully the hospital gave in to her demands and gave her the scans.
Unfortunately they did find more cancer, but at least she is being treated, many people won’t be so lucky.

For all age groups? For fit and healthy young people that have next to no risk from it?
What do you mean no risk? We've still got a lot to learn about this nasty virus.

Long term health effects - 200,000 reporting long term symptoms

"A striking feature of COVID-19 is how long the symptoms can last. Early in the pandemic, initial medical advice on recovery times for mild COVID-19 had suggested 1-2 weeks. However, many people have seen symptoms last for 8 to 10 weeks or longer, and symptoms can seem to go away only to come racing back. A research group at King’s College London, UK, developed a COVID-19 tracker app for people to record their symptoms daily, and estimated 200,000 have been reporting symptoms for the entire six weeks since the tracker was launched.

Many people had a pattern of symptoms, where their symptoms were heightened initially, nearly disappeared, then returned again with ferocity, along with a very wide range of symptoms."

Ok bear where to start with this 200,000 who are invested mentally in the Pandemic enter their symptoms daily into a tracker app...

Could it just be possible that huge chunks of these symptoms report a headache as a symptom?
Could it be that some of these symptoms are psychosomatic?

Or is it that this is a totally different virus to any ever known and just randomly decides to do further damage even when it is no longer in the body of the individual...

I remember the scare when Kawasaki disease was linked to it... That disappeared without a trace as well.

If the symptoms were anything worrying why aren't they checking into hospital?

Is it possible to completely sideline the affect of stress and fear on the people suffering these prolonged symptoms?

The problem with dividing via age groups is they can still spread it. They can still die of it too come to think of it. I get your point though.
If you lockdown this country again in the depths of winter you will create a social and economic disaster. More jobs and livelihoods will be lost when we are already in recession. Repossessions will rise with the inability to pay mortgages. Children’s already curtailed education will be further neglected. Mental health issues will rocket with the lack of daylight hours and the ability to use outside spaces and gardens hindered by the weather.
Domestic violence cases will balloon for obvious reasons and the lack of GP visits and referrals will cause deaths far in excess of the covoid ones. Look at the stats posted above by Ingleby Flash and tell why we need to inflict this on ourselves based on those figures from NHS England.

Glad you got the treatment you wife needs that’s great to hear

@SmallTown the proof you were asking for in relation to lockdown effecting people

I meant locking down now. When cases are rising. To stop deaths rising in correspondence

TBF I was asking for proof lockdown was causing more deaths. Haven't seen that. Also I would hope to see proof it's causing more deaths than it's preventing.

Yes, because they're potentially carriers who won't have symptoms but will pass it on - it's selfish, arrogant attitudes like this that have caused this latest increase
Well if it’s selfish and arrogant to want to see people safe in what’s left of their jobs then I’m guilty. If it’s selfish and arrogant to want people to be able to keep a roof over their families heads then I’m guilty. If it’s selfish and arrogant to want to stop an explosion in untreated cancers then I’m guilty. If it’s selfish and arrogant to want suicides, loneliness and mental health issues to be kept to a minimum then I’m guilty. And if it’s selfish and arrogant to want people to be able to live their lives free of state imposed restrictions to combat a virus that kills a very small, vulnerable percentage of those that it infects then I’m guilty. But mark my words your lockdown cure will have consequences that are far worse than the disease itself. Over and out. Off to be selfish and arrogant.

If you still have old/infirm parents or grandparents think of them. If you do not then think of all of the people who have old/infirm parents and grandparents. If those older/infirm people catch it you are probably signing their death warrants.

You may be (partially) right. There is a research project to look into some aspects of this. Study in UK

One peer reviewed paper Link
"Patients were assessed a mean of 60.3 (SD, 13.6) days after onset of the first COVID-19 symptom; at the time of the evaluation, only 18 (12.6%) were completely free of any COVID-19–related symptom, while 32% had 1 or 2 symptoms and 55% had 3 or more. None of the patients had fever or any signs or symptoms of acute illness. Worsened quality of life was observed among 44.1% of patients. The Figure shows that a high proportion of individuals still reported fatigue (53.1%), dyspnea (43.4%), joint pain, (27.3%) and chest pain (21.7%)."

There was also a study of asymptomatic cases that found the majority had some degree of lung damage

That’s why older people and people with underlying health issues should be isolated when the figures suggest it’s necessary. That is a million miles away from a National lockdown.

People dont trust this government to know its ass from its elbow, a further lockdown would not be complied with and would require re-implementing measures they dont want to do again (see economy).

12 days since I stopped shielding and my general observation is that people really dont care about the virus anymore.

I cant afford to shield again, so have accepted that despite my best efforts, there's not much more I can do to keep safe if it kicks off anew.
