Tier 2 Pubs

I read on the BBC site that those in a tier two area, who want to have alcohol in a pub must have a substantive meal and then leave straight afterwards. As I dont drink alcohol, can I go to the pub and not have a meal and stay for a few hours if I am drinking coke or other soft drinks ?
Sorry if this sounds a bit thick, but I am very confused.

I understood you could have the table for as long as the establishment were happy.
That'll probably end up the case. There is no way the police or a covid marshall can determine when you finished your meal. Nobody finishes their meal and then instantly pays up and leaves. Nobody.

Stupid rule with food, what’s wrong with going into a pub, sitting down at a table with one other and having a pint.

I think the chief medical officer just doesn’t like anyone drinking alcohol.

I’m tired and utterly sick to death of stupid rules like this.

Yep pubs are operating really as restaurants for the period. What they won't be able to police is how much food you order. A plate of chips. A bowl of soup only with a bottle of wine?

I think these people who make these decisions be it govt or advisors are so detached from normal people that they think we ALL are like the louts who are shown partying outside pubs at kicking out time . It is beyond them that 90% or so are ordinary public of all ages who might nip out have a couple of beers or indeed coffee or perhaps glass of wine and pick up on a bit of chat or craic among friends etc .

This.

I live alone. I’ve had no social contact with anyone this past month. I already suffer from depression and anxiety. I am being forced to work from home which I am massively struggling with.

I was looking forward to going for a pint with a workmate as soon as we could but no Thanks to Chris bloody whitty. can Sit in my garden in the freezing fkg cold though.

sorry to sound like a broken record but the long term mental health toll of these evil lockdowns will total a darn sight more than the 50k plus deaths from the virus.

I’m sorry to read you are suffering and I completely agree that the rules make no sense.

I think the government advisors assume everybody goes to the pub to get hammered, particularly in the north, and that is dominating their thinking.

Read something on the bbc website earlier that they are also telling us not to play board games at Christmas and telling kids Don’t hug granny.

are they trying to suffocate all enjoyment out of life? If they are, they’ve succeeded with me.

Smog, I looked at the government regulations today. You can sit in a pub and drink coffee or coco or orange juice all night without a meal. Sad but true.

Who makes up these rules?

I must admit the current performance of the government would suggest they have stopped even worrying about the mental health of the population.

Personally I don’t think Johnson, Whitty or co have a clue what they are doing.

I am tier 3 but live about 100 yards from the North Yorkshire tier 2 area but by the rules can’t visit pubs which are in walking distance for a meal.

This country is too small to be dividing up the population like this.

I can go To Sainsbury’s and meander about the aisles picking up with my bare hands whatever I fancy having a mooch feel for freshness and checking date . If I see fit I can just plonk it back down and meander on dodging anyone who suddenly stops with their trolley and crosses me aiming for something they’ve just spotted .
But I can’t go in my local where you strictly had to preorder a table , enter wearing a face mask and sign in and have temperature taken and rub sanitizer over hands , sit at my own table ( no standing ) And be served at my table . Only time taking face mask off was sat down . On leaving leave in one direction .
This is f****** crazy and I’ve had enough as I am now believing something sinister is being cooked up and we’re treated as Imbeciles

I’m the same as you buddy and live alone . I used to love popping in my local for a good laugh and feel just like you . You’re not alone

It's revenge of the geeks. Clearly bullied in school and now with this new found power they have they are on a trip.
