10am – Paul Menzies on Middlesbrough
Paul Menzies considers some aspects of the history of Middlesbrough in his weekly blog posts during Local History Month. This week he investigates why a petition was raised against a new railway station.

10am – Frank Wild: The Antarctic explorer from Skelton
In three videos to be shown during Local History Month, and in advance of exhibition at the Captain Cook Birthplace Museum of artefacts associated with his life and travels, we will learn about the Antarctic explorer Frank Wild, who was born in Skelton and who took part in no less than four expeditions to the Antarctic between 1901 and 1922.

2pm – The Teesside International Brigades Memorial
Tony Fox, of the International Brigades Memorial Trust, tells the story of the Teesside International Brigades Memorial, which is now in Middlesbrough Town Hall. He’ll be explaining: the role local volunteers played in the XV International Brigade during the Spanish Civil War, the unique story of the memorial plaque’s production, loss and recovery and how the Volunteers have been commemorated.

7pm – Teesside Rising interview: Edna Hunnysett
Arts Council-funded Teesside Rising project interviews Edna Hunnysett, who writes novels inspired by her life growing up on a farm in the 1940s.
