Threshold of spousal visa salary raised.

Since Brexit it has become more difficult for many british citizens living abroad to return to the UK with their foreign spouses. In France about 40% of people in this situation would not be able to meet the new threshold. It does not affect me as I have no desire to return to the UK, but many would like to at some point in the future. This measure applies worldwide. I wonder how many on here for instance have family in say Australia, New Zealand etc with local spouses who might want to return one day. The children of these couples born abroad also have no right to return unless they meet the threshold. Ideology gone mad.

I didn't read the article but couldn't the children apply for British passports? I realise that doesn't solve the issue but with a passport they will have the right to live in the UK ( although the cost of the application may be high for some ) .
It is a very high increase and it appears , at least to me , to be a way of manipulating the immigration figures in areas that they can more easily control.

I don't know if that is possible or if it would succeed, but it would only apply in a small percentage of cases. I think the writer's last paragraph sums up succinctly what it's about and the effect it will have.

Global news over the last months has been so unremittingly grim that this might seem like a first world problem. That’s because it is a first world problem. It’s the sound of gates clanging shut on people from other parts of the world, for whom money is not the top priority of life but whose values surely make this increasingly mean and divisive country a better place.

It’s absolute nonsense. They are capping legal migration and pretending to do Jack shìt about illegal migration, which will only rise and rise with stupid initiatives like this.
