Threads

I've never seen it. Not sure it would have the suggested impact if I watched it now with the sort of things we have seen in tv/film over the years.

How does it compare to something like The Road (adapted from the Cormac McCarthy novel)? That is one of the bleakest films I've ever seen about post-apocalyptic survival.

Threads makes The Road look like an episode of Friends. I'd urge anybody to watch it, even if it is just once. Especially World leaders! You can watch the whole film on YouTube 👍

This is terrible advice.

DONT WATCH IT. EVER.

The road has a happy ending. If he got caught by cannibals who made him eat his son, then it would be nowhere near as bleak as threads.

I mean I spend most of my time on here taking the ****, but I'm deadly serious. No one should ever watch threads. You can't do anything about it, so it's best not knowing.

No no no. Watch it. It's fascinating as much as anything else. Especially given how it could actually happen one day. I've seen it about four times now and it always hits hard.

The Road is very bleak but IMHO a fantastic film which is warmed by the love and bond between the father and son. Cormac McCarthy wrote the book (he also wrote No Country For Old Men I believe) as a love story to his son.

Threads on the other hand is just bleak and terrifying full stop - as mentioned above, the mundane, every day 80s real life sets on what could be any street in any town add to the realism which is of course what brings the terror; it really could happen to us.

I recorded it when it was on in October but haven't plucked up the courage to watch it yet. Not sure what the right mood to be in is to watch that when I'm scrolling through the planner.

It's not as traumatising as people make it out to be, just get it watched!

"Threads" offers no hope, and rightly so. Any remake pandering to 'reconnections in society' and 'increased resilience' (as I've heard mentioned) should be treated with the utter disdain they deserve. Clue's in the title, really.

It terrified the $hit out of me when I saw it originally broadcast, aged 7.😬 As others have said, it was the gritty realism, ordinary characters that you'd know in real life, having their lives ripped apart as society broke down. A glutton for punishment, I have the DVD now, but I don't watch it often!

I'll be interested to see the remake, normally remakes of dramas like this fail to hit as hard, but given the work Warp Films have done thus far, this might well buck the trend.
