Thought Warnock was brave yesterday

Going with Johnson and Spence as orthodox full backs with Friend CB. And it absolutely payed off. I was expecting 3412 when I seen the line up but it was more a 433 or 4312 and it worked brilliantly. Loved the pleasant surprise of Howson in the holding midfield role, I think we have oursleves a master tactician here aswell as motivator.

I’m excited at the thought of Warnock being here next season, I really hope he is.

I totally agree on the formation, I think Spence and Johnson deserve special praise, great performances. I'd worry against a less woeful team maybe, but as you say we have someone with much more tactical nous now, so hopefully he'll be able to address it.

I wonder if Coulson had been available he'd have played him as an orthodox left back in a four?

My lad is buzzing, Spence is his absolute favourite player and he loved him carrying the ball out and his mazy runs up field.

My heart was in my mouth and I felt sick, age and experience of following boro do that to you!

Great game, great to be smiling and feeling positive again, changes the mood, be great going to work Monday and not raging about another terrible performance.

If we finish reasonably well and things are looking good for next season I'm probably going back to being a ST holder, it is a waste of money for me with work, but the boy is keen on going again after a couple of years of apathy and a minor dalliance with Man City .

Strike while the irons hot!

Up the boro!

A lot of new managers ( pullis is a key example) would have set up yesterday with one aim not to lose to be solid at the back and try and nick a goal but if not see it a nil nil.

Warnock didn’t do that we went from the off exactly the thing we never did last week.

If you want bravery look no further than Colin! I’m so glad he’s finally our man. Just hope it’s for at least a full season.

Was he really bold, he picked players to play their best positions. He picked a team fans were largely happy with, he just did the right thing, especially with the team selection In the midfield and forward line. In truth, as Coulson was injured and Moukoudi recovering too, he had to choose between George or Johnson at LB or George or Shotton as CB. Having watched George and Shotton last week, George got the nod probably as he was skipper and on dressing room influence and so Johnson was really the only LB option. I think we see it as bold as we are simply not used to seeing a Boro team set up to attack and take the game to the opposition

However, that said, I think managers are being somewhat bolder in how they approach away games, no crowds means home advantage has disappeared, refs are less intimidated too, The number of away wins seems far higher than normal in football to me, although thats just my impression.

Well yeah that’s what I meant really, bolder than we have been used to with the past 2 managers. It should be a formality that managers play players in their right positions and try and win the game from the off but as we know, that’s not always the case. I think Warnock is gonna keep us happy as all we want is a team on the pitch that gives you a chance of winning the game and a manager who knows how to manage in game situations, and with Warnock, we have both.

TBF Woody was bold picking Gestede and Nmecha upfront.

Interesting theory, you may be correct. However, My take on him picking Gestede and Nmecha was he was weak. I have a hunch or gut feeling he promised Nmecha he would start more games as a sop to get him to agree to stay beyond his contract and Started Gestede in a bid to try to convince him to see the season out too what with the uncertainty over several players. I don’t think he was getting his priorities right.

This is what I think. And if that is the case he probably didn’t realise he will of lost a part of Fletcher and Assombalonga. 2 players who actually are under contract and are better players. Idiotic management to be honest, but it’s nothing less than I expect from Woodgate.

The team selection was probably a bit of an eye opener for those who think he's no different from Pulis.

It was a team set up to win the game rather than avoid losing it.

We won't be playing tikka takka under Warnock, but we will be going at teams and putting them under pressure. I think the majority of fans would accept that now surely?

completely agree.

Seen some people claiming we were playing with a 10 man defence, which I'm genuinely baffled by.

Clearly never watched the match or saw the line-up, but just fancied trying to put a dampener on a win.

Btw sorry to labour the point but getting back to that team selection v Swansea it was also a very dangerous team selection as players are like fans their not stupid they know who is putting the effort in and who isn’t. So imagine how Brit or fletch ( the top goal scorer in the club) felt seeing the manager after a 3 month break choose a loannee and a player we now know openly wanted out at the end of this month start over them. I’m amazed they didn’t walk out as well. Same for the others dropped.

In one stupid move woody set back our morale weeks at a time we needed to be at our most united.

It defied belief and now knowing the rudi scenario makes it even worse.

Woodgate's selection last week reminded me of when I used to play Championship manager, probably looked good on paper. Warnock's yesterday was that of an experienced football man who went with players he knew in roles he thought they could do.

We did have 31% possession and 46% pass completion. I’ve no doubt I watched the game through rose tinted specs but I honestly thought we thoroughly deserved the win! We just made more of the ball and the chances we had I guess. They could have scored but we could have scored more as well.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think we played amazingly and there's a lot to work on, but in no way did we just shut up shop whilst trying to snatch a goal.
We attacked throughout.

Launching long balls is bound to see a big drop in passing accuracy and possession.

I don't think it's entirely rose tinted, the neutral pundits seemed to agree we deserved it too.

Anyone who is saying things like this is basing it on a Ill advised pre judged opinion they have on him they he’s similar to Pulis and I believe they have that opinion based purely cos of his age. It’s one of the most forward thinking We have been all season, winning the ball high up the pitch is the type of football I love.
