FAC 3rd round - Boro flashback 4th January 1975

For the 2nd season running we were drawn away to non league opposition, last season (5/1/1974) it was Midland League side Grantham who were disposed of 2-0 in the 3rd round, this season, it's Isthmian League team Wycombe Wanderers, who created history when playing in the third round proper of the F.A. Cup for the first time in their history, when joint top First Division Boro travelled to Loakes Park

Big Jack made one change from the previous home game, bringing in Peter Brine for Bobby Murdoch

The game ended goaless & WW earned a big money day out at Ayresome Park

Big Jacks team

Jim Platt
John Craggs
Frank Spraggon
Graeme Souness
Stuart Boam
Willie Maddren
Peter Brine
David Mills

Sub - Alan Willey, replaced Alan Foggon in the 2nd half

That's great. They've done well since then
They've done really well, I always watched their progress since joining the league, there run last season to go up automatically was excellent & I was hoping that feel good factor would carry them through the 1st few months of this season but it didn't, they've struggled since the season started
Similar to Hereford a few years back, too many divisions then went back down again

Let's hope they can do it. Ground looked great and the post game vibe between the players etc seemed quite friendly

Won the replay this day the 7th with the only goal of the game from a strike from Dave 'Spike' Armstrong, his 2nd career Boro FAC goal, he scored his 1st away to Grantham the previous season 👍

Lovely memories. This was my first ever away game. My older brother and his mates were going and one of them dropped out so my brother managed to persuade my Mam to let me go. I always remember the sloping pitch as it was folklore on the buildup and we didn't have the internet so could not really appreciate what it was like. I also remember the trip home as the organisers of the trip ran a MoM poll and I was the only one on the bus to nominate Alan Foggen  . I did have the program but alas it went missing over the years.

Erimus: Paddy Mackin was my form teacher at School at the time and I remember the day after the replay discussing the score and then feeling like a grown up Boro fan when I told him that I had been to the first game. For evermore throughout my School days he always took time out to chat about the Boro with me and I am sure he let me off with lots of misdemeanours over the years. due to me being a "Proper" Boro fan.

Paddy Mackin, wow, there's a name from the past, I don't think I was only in his class much, nice memory
Loved St Micks too

I remember it well. It was my last Boro game before going to work abroad for 11 years. Terrible timing: I got back in time for Boro going bust.
