Stan Anderson picked the following team for the final pre season match of the summer

yeah remember it well as been a grey and miserable evening, and I think the next day in the gazette Eusebio was tipping us for promotion, ever the diplomat :)

I remember getting soaked and trying to huddle behind a concrete barrier in the SE corner- I was just a young lad then. Funny I thought it was 0-0, but I trust E74 so my memory must be fading.

12 shillings (60 new pence) was nearly 6 pints of beer for your seat - certainly £20 in today's money possibly £25 for a childs ticket!

The Evening Gazette was 3p (90p today?) - making the ticket £18 on that inflation guide

I was poorer than Erimuses and paid 30p for an open terrace say £9 to £12 today

No John Craggs I notice he must have signed after the 10th August.

Me and 5 mates got a lift back to Yarm off Nobby Stiles that day. We were hoping to see the Benfica squad at Ayresome.
Went back later in the evening to watch the match. If memory serves me right Eusebio scored for Benfica

I remember that, Block 86, as I was among the small gaggle of lads waiting outside the gates getting autographs as the players came out in the afternoon. I remember one of a group of about four older (about 16 or so years old) lads asking Nobby half jokingly for a lift and he replied "Where are ya going?" One of the lads replied "Yarm" and Nobby said "Ok, let's go." How strange that your post triggered an memory otherwise locked in the filing cabinet of my mind these past 50 years.

That was us, the car was a Ford Escort Mexico. All the England squad players for the 1970 World Cup were given one. He took us to his house. 95 The Larun Beat, Yarm.

Benfica were staying at The Tall Trees Hotel. I managed to get a Eusebio signed postcard from reception. It's somewhere in my collection.

Funny how the memory plays tricks. I remember talking to my mates that I had seen the great Eusabio play. But I cannot remember being at that match.
I remember Boro playing Gateshead (Erimus posted about this on another thread) yet I thought it was 1-1.
And I definately remember Boro playing Roma and winning 3-0. I was in the Boys End and roma played in all white. But......was it a friendly or was it the Anglo Italian Cup
