This is a bit worrying - catching covid twice

WASHINGTON — Five sailors on the U.S. aircraft carrier sidelined in Guam due to a COVID-19 outbreak have tested positive for the virus for the second time and have been taken off the ship, according to the Navy.

The resurgence of the virus in the five sailors on the USS Theodore Roosevelt underscores the befuddling behavior of the highly contagious virus and raises questions about how troops that test positive can be reintegrated into the military, particularly on ships.

All five sailors had previously tested positive and had gone through at least two weeks of isolation. As part of the process, they all had to test negative twice in a row, with the tests separated by at least a day or two before they were allowed to go back to the ship.

But this is the us navy so it’s a bit more credible as they have strict testing criteria and its 5 separate people.

kind of flies in the face of so call “herd immunity” theory as well.

How many people have had the virus twice - 6?
How many people have had the virus (tested for) - 1million?
Are tests 100% reliable?

You'd need to know the sensitivity of the test. Some South Korean tests had only 75% sensitivity. They could generate false positives. Then the next day you tested negative, but to be sure had to isolate for 14 days anyway.

The question is whether those who "caught the disease twice" had symptoms the first time around.

Clearly there's some level of immunity developed or those who caught the virus would never be rid of it.

Why is it more credible that it has come from the US navy?
A US president using every opportunity to rip China apart would love this kind of story

On a more positive note there is no other evidence whatsoever that you can catch it twice.

Haven’t read the article in full. But these navy guys had they got it from say Asia then have they got a mutated version in the USA. Be interesting to know if that’s the situation

On a trustworthiness scale I imagine the USN would be WAY WAY above the Chinese government, aside from data they have to conceal for confidentiality reasons. I would assume the South Korean government to be a bit more trustworthy though.
