Of Tony Goddens net at the holgate end, scoring the only goal of the game v WBA & progress for the mighty Boro in to the 5th round of the FAC

Well, thats what he'd probably be telling people over a few beers when describing his 1st goal he scored for the mighty Boro, a 30 yard daisy cutter, which Godden could have thrown his cap onto yet somehow, allowed the ball to somehow go under his body, with Ayresome Park going wild Godden left spralled out in the holgate goalmouth totally dejected

Godden sort of made amends to the 1st half howler when saving a David Armstrong penalty in the 2nd half but the damage was done & Boro went through

Attendance - 28,285 with David Hodgson in the holgate

I think "30 yards " would be a massive exaggeration Erimus. 20 yards at most. I was in the Holgate that day and he struck it on the edge of the box and the keeper should have done better.

Yep, most likely 20 yards. From our position in the chicken run you dont get a true idea of the distance more than you would looking at it from the holgate
Ian Bailey only scored 2 & both at the holagte end, the other v Notts County the following season

The goal featured on one of Danny Baker's blooper videos - have flicked through a couple but can't find it yet....

I was in the North terrace seats - looked a easy save but really was a blooper by goddardI liked bailey looked composed and had a bit of a dribble in him . Never quite hit the heights but a decent player for us
