This day 24th February 1990 I went to Oxford on the supporters coach

Erimus74

We lost 3-1 with Mark Brennan scoring our consolation goal

I can still see the headlines in the Sunday morning papers, Bruce Rioch saying, '' You will get me sacked with performance like that''

Now Bruce, who had guided the club through adversity, over 3 amazing seasons, including taking the Boro to their 1st ever Wembley cup final was even considering those words, without saying them, it was unthinkable

Bruce brought to the club by the late, great Willie Maddren, become manager when we were fighting for our 2nd division lives, we lost that fight but what followed was a truly amazing period in the football clubs history, he was now seeing his beloved Boro back in the same position 4 years later, we all thought & hoped that Bruce Rioch would turn it around

Bruce's team

Stephen Pears
Gary Parkinson
Nicky Mohan
Tony Mowbray
Simon Coleman
Mark Proctor
Bernie Slaven
Paul Kerr
Ian Baird - 3rd game for the Boro & an opposite feeling to his next visit to Oxford
Mark Brennan
Peter Davenport
Sub - Stuart Ripley, replacing Peter Davenport in the 2nd half

I went to this game as well Erimus. I was only 20 at the time and I remember getting home, going straight out to the Maddison and then joining the queue at 3am to guarantee my ZDS Cup Final tickets. I then played Sunday morning footy no problem. Oh to be 20 again :) I'd let my ST lapse that particular season and after queuing all night i've had one ever since.
