This day 1992 - Man City went the same way in the FAC as they did in the League cup

Man City came to Teesside to avange the league cup defeat they suffered the previous month, 3rd December

Unlike the league cup match, Man City took the lead, controlled the game & looked as though they could gain the revenge they wanted, but the Boro that season were made of sterner stuff

Lennie Lawrence had us fighting on all fronts & for each other, in another remarkable season following the mighty Boro & the evidence was shown in the final 10 minutes of the cup tie when we scored 2 late, late, late goals in a minute to knock out Man City, go through to the next round & a cup double over the big boys from Manchester

At the beginning of the match when showing the team line up it has our erimus badge, awesome

Watching the match you can still feel the atmosphere when we equalise, then when the winner goes in you can jump around the room, a great cup tie for me that I still look back on as one of the best at AP

Lennies breath taking team of the day

Stephen Pears
Gary Parkinson
Jimmy Phillips
Alan Kernaghan
Nicky Mohan
Robbie Mustoe
Bernie Slaven
Jamie Pollock
Paul Wilkinson
Andy Peake
Stuart Ripley
Subs
No12 John Hendrie
No14 Andy Payton

After all these years that footage still gives me goosebumps, the shot of the south terrace after Kernaghan scores is a great brilliant

Remember them both well. Great games and well worth the 400 mile round trip we had for home games in those days. ‘We can see, we can see, we can see’, we sang in the Holgate. No we couldn’t!. Probably my favourite season ever supporting the Boro.

Probably my favourite Ayresome match (to be fair I'd only started attending with any regularity the previous season!). The atmosphere after we scored the two quick goals was unreal, and it could have been more as we hit City on the break and Stuart Ripley, unmarked in the box, hit the post.

I love games at this time of year - this one started in bright clear (cold!) sunshine and ended in pitch darkness with the floodlights blazing down.

Just to complement Erimus74's South Stand ticket stub, here's mine from the Holgate. Can't remember why they handed out stubs as I paid cash on the gate, unless it was to give priority for later rounds?

A great match in a great season.

The next round was even better; 2-1 away to Wednesday who, if I remember rightly, finished 3rd in the top flight that season.

Although the less said about the 5th Round replay the better....

Darren Anderton certainly lived up to his 'wonderkid' reputation that night, unfortunately.
