3rd February Owen McGee & ian Baird making their home league debuts

OM had cut his teeth in our successful Zenith date systems run to the semi finals & wore the No12 shirt the previous league game week away to Sheffield United was given his 1st league start this day, wearing the No3 shirt standing in for the injured Colin Cooper & Ian Baird, wearing the No9 shirt, making his debut after his transfer from Leeds who went on to become a Boro terrace icon with his gritty performances & his in the oppositions face attitude

We had beaten Sunderland 3-0 in our last home game but we were still at the wrong end of the 2nd division, Bruce feeling frusatrated at the inconsistency of the Boro in the league that season

Infront of 15,295 Boro won 2-0 with goals from Bernie Slaven with his 13th goal of the season & Paul Kerr his 1st of the campaign against his home town club set us up nicely for a massive midweek fixture at home to Aston Villa in the 2nd leg of the ZDS, this was to be Trevor Putneys last game of the season when suffering a terrible injury the following match v Villa after a tackle from Gordon Cowens resulted in his being stretchered off

Blimey that was my first game. 30 years of supporting the Boro. You get less for murder. Even really nasty ones.

I went on to watch Owen McGee play for guisborough town a couple of years later.
