Scored his 5th Boro & penultimate hattrick as the Boro ran out 4-2 winners at the Goldstone ground, Ian Baird getting the other goal, Bernies hattrick was our 32nd away & our 124th since joining the football league in 1899
This took Bernies goal tally of the season to 7, with Ian Baird on 4 goals, throughout that season we were virtually unbeaten away, scoring goals for fun, put struggled at home, losing out in the players to our present managers Notts County
I went to this game, a great home journey, totally opposite to the previous season when I went on the supporters coach at a gale blowing 1-0 defeat
Ironically his final Boro hattrick was at home to Brighton the following season
Toddy team
Stephen Pears
Colin Cooper
Jimmy Phillips
Tony Mowbray
Alan Kernaghan
John Wark
Bernie Slaven
Robbie Mustoe
Ian Baird
Paul Kerr
John Hendrie
Subs
No12 Trevor Putney - 3rd game as sub following his awful injury the season before at home to Villa
No14 Stuart Ripley - returning back after missing 5 games from an injury
