This day 1990 away to Brighton & that man again, Bernie Slaven

Scored his 5th Boro career hattrick as the mighty Boro ran out 4-2 winners at the Goldstone ground, Ian Baird getting the other goal, Bernies hattrick was our 32nd away & our 124th since joining the football league in 1899

This took Bernies goal tally of the season to 7, with Ian Baird on 4 goals, throughout that season we were virtually unbeaten away, scoring goals for fun, the opposite to our home form where we struggled, losing out in the playoffs to our present managers Notts County

I went to this game, a great home journey, totally opposite to the previous season when I went on the supporters coach at a gale blowing Goldstone ground nightmatch to watch us lose 1-0

Ironically his final Boro hattrick was at home to Brighton the following season

Toddy team

Stephen Pears
Colin Cooper
Jimmy Phillips
Tony Mowbray
Alan Kernaghan
John Wark

I remember that game.
Drove to Brighton from London, got there about midday and had a wander around, before driving back to the NE after the game, in my bright yellow spitfire!!

Did the same for Portsmouth too.
