Boro flashback this day 22nd November 1986

Newport County 0 Boro 1

The face of advercity bandwagon is rolling on brilliantly & gathering pace
Up to the Newport game, we had played 16 league games & suffered 2 defeats, one at home to Blackpool & one away to Notrs County, along with 4 league cup matches & one defeat, which was away to Birmingham in extra time, a team in a higher league

This from the same 12 players who had no friendlies, summer practise matches, just training in local parks with jumpers as goal posts

The season was turning out far better than the most optimistic of us Boro supporter could have dreamed of

Bruce couldn't ask for any more from his players

With the clock ticking down to the 90 minute mark, our 1st ever visit to Somerton Park was looking as it was going to finish goalless, with the points shared, but, the mighty Boro & Boro legend, Mogga, had other ideas

Boro won a corner & with practically the last kick of the match Stuart Ripley floated a corner in to the Newport penalty box, our iconic captain 'Tony Mowbray' rose the highest to head the ball in the net & score the vital winner, goooaaaaalllllll

Within seconds the ref blows the final whistle, full time, the mighty Boro take all three points & our 6th away win of the season, the Boro fans, with the 5 hour journey, 300 miles back to Teesside to look forward to, are ecstatic

Pretty sure I went to this one. Wasn't this the game where it poured down all night and we were in a stand with no coverings?!
Cracking support, well done with going yo this game, such a long, tiresome journey, i didnt make this one but yes it poured down the whole game Michael_Vronsky

I thought it was. I was on leave around the time and decided to head down! I must've been young and stupid... ha! Worth it when that goal went in though!!

I didn't go to this but I remember reading in the Gazette that 50 Exeter fans came to this match after their away match had been called off earlier due to being waterlogged.

Was at that game with my late father
Got a couple of pints in a local pub beforehand
Weather was terrible, but Mogga 90th minute header won it for us
Few Boro lads giving home fans the runaround after their game - they wore a checky type scarf I seem to remember

Was at this game. Stand we were in did have a roof but it was filled with holes and more like a colander. Drive back was brutal and missed a turn off or two and ended up coming back along the A66 via Penrith and not getting back till about two on the Sunday morning.
Don’t regret a thing 😀

was at this game. the away end had a roof over, it was the other end where the Exeter fans were that didnt. One speaker for the Tannoy system which was in our end and absolutely deafening. Worst stadium i have ever been to.
